Other reviewers are right that Bagel Factory is a little expensive but I was in a TERRIBLE mood this morning having just missed my train ONLYPARTIALLY due to my own fault and smoked salmon and cream cheese on an onion bagel with a fancy little Innocent orange juice for the ludicrous price of £6.60 was really really really what I needed at this point. I didn’t think the bagel was terrible, either, a totally acceptable amount of filling. It wasn’t toasted very long but as I had to not miss the next train I didn’t mind — I am sure you can ask for it to be toasted more if you want. It’s definitely a nice change from the chilled sandwiches/baguettes otherwise proliferating unappealingly in Piccadilly! Also this set me up well for the fact that the next train ended up in some sidings in the Hope Valley behind a freight train making me catastrophically and ultimately irreparably late.

Like Sam, when I spent a year in Canada I lived on bagels. That is no exaggeration — some days I would have bagels for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Versatile, delicious and not wholly unhealthy, bagels are certainly good things, which are underrated and underrepresented in fast food outlets in the UK. However, I completely agree with Sarah-Anne and Sarah-Jane about BF’s extortionate prices for bagels which are… okay. Even their meal deals are not my idea of good value. £4.99 for a sparsely topped smoked salmon bagel with a hot drink is overpriced when you could get a more filling meal deal from Boots next door for half the price. However, with the lack of local bagel outlets and the fact that BF is located inside the train station, I think that they will survive until cheap Canadian bagel outlet Tim Hortons comes to the UK — anyone up for starting a petition?!

When I lived in Canada I used to get to have a bagel all the time. You see, they’re everywhere over there, and you’re probably more likely to eat a bagel at lunchtime than a sandwich. It’s a good thing. Clearly, this isn’t the way things are in Manchester. But this Bagel Factory offers travellers a good alternative to a dull sandwich from WH Smith before they grab their train and are clearly way more healthier than getting a Burger King. You can get a packed bagel for a few quid and what’s better is they’re made to order. Get them filled with exactly what you want.

Bagel Factory, psssh, you’ve got nothing on Bagel Nash. To agree with Sarah-Jane, this ship is incredibly overpriced. £4 for a bagel! That’s just silly! Order anything on top of your bagel, I mean anything, and some how it turns mushy and soggy. Mmmm, yummy… or not. With so much competition in the train station, you think this place would be much better than it is, the only reason I’ve ever ended up here is because everywhere else has had a queue. And I’ve always wished afterwards that I just queued. Damn my impatience. Subway out the front is a much better choice and usually not as busy as the station.

For £4 I want a bagel that sings, dances and knocks me off my feet. Unfortunately, everytime I’ve ordered a bagel from BF it’s failed on all counts. The toasted bagels always taste like they’ve been warmed for 20 seconds rather than grilled or toasted and the bagels themselves are too doughy and flavourless. With the exception of the cream cheese and gherkins, the portions are usually tight-fisted too and the ingredients taste dry like they were sliced hours ago. In short, the good souls at Murray’s Bagels in New York would cry if they ordered anything here!
