If you love beer then definitely come down here. It is one of those places that if you don’t know exists then you would probably never come here. It is located in the arndale market. There was a great selection of ales. They also have a brewery not too far away which is great. The punters who were there were all great and the owner was a great bloke to chat with! Keep up the good work.

Well worth a visit plus of course you can get food at any of the other establishments near by, so a good location for drink with food from around the world. Inexpensive and a great choice of beers and anything else that might interest you to drink(I like a bit of cider from time to time). Somewhere to try new things too, I would suggest heading here just after lunch or just before lunch if you like to sit and drink, otherwise you will be standing :)

A great little place, if not a tad random given its surroundings — it looks as though a shopping centre has been built around a small village pub which refused to sell up. I loved it instantly. It’s run by the people behind Boggart Hole Clough Brewery, based in Manchester. They sell Boggart beers as well as guest ales and real cider from its five hand pumps. There’s also a selection of bottled beers from the UK and beyond. They don’t sell food here but there’s plenty of variety available from the surrounding food stalls. Opening hours are obviously limited to the market opening times but it’s well worth a visit, especially if you can only tolerate five minutes’ shopping in the Arndale like me.

I absolutely love this bar, I’ve no idea why. If you like a pint and don’t know about the Microbar in the Arndale already then the chances are you probably won’t want to go here. It’s tacked on to the end of the food market, is usually full of professional drinkers and is all function, no form — don’t go taking a lady on a date here, unless you want it to be the last one. Maybe that’s why I love it. The beer selection; usually 4⁄5 beers on keg/cask with the ever-present and delicious Boggart Rum Porter(brewed just a few miles away), plus dozens of bottles, which can be taken away too, make it worth a visit alone. Then there’s opportunity to do some truly excellent people watching — the(predominantly) blokes at the bar are all very interesting to see come and go, along with the hustle and bustle of High Street outside and the Arndale make it quite the relaxed haven while everyone else shunts about. Beer prices are super for city centre too, highlighting how much the NQ establishments are taking the piss — admittedly the Microbar has spent close to zilch on décor and I’d imagine the rents are much lower too, but still.

So last night, after years and years of walking past it — we checked out the bar with no name(or not one that anyone really knows or thinks it’s just called Microbar), which is bizarrely situated in the Arndale market just close to the food stands. It’s always been a place where you see bar fly’s in there for the long haul, brushing up against regular shoppers who can’t wait to get into the mall — but they’ve also always had a great selection of local guest beers and ales which have always been tempting. Being Xmas and my mission being to A: do new random things and B: get one last 2013 burrito from the amazing Pancho’s next door — a few of us went to check it out and found friendly staff, well priced city centre beers(£3.20) and a few selections that I’d never seen before on tap. A bit strange drinking in a mall but if it’s going to be done this well then I’m much rather drink here than a sponsored Carlsberg bar or the like any day of then week. On the premises is also an off licence where you can buy a great selection of bottled beers to go from all the big American craft breweries and some good local ones too. They also do gift sets if you’re after something for that beer lover in the family as a present! Overall, Boggart’s(wow, I do know the name now) isn’t somewhere that you’d spend all night or day in but I’ll definitely be popping by again for a pint of two. Open till 7pm

This bar is such a simple concept yet manages to tick all the right boxes. The location is truly amazing every shopping centre should have a bar like this. Saturday afternoons shopping with the misses can now be easily combined with a pint of proper beer or cider.

Strange review seeing as I don’t drink beer. But the men in my life do. Adam loves his ales and my dad appreciates anything good. So I bought my dad a selection of bottles of beer for his birthday, all reasonably priced and we got a good description of each beer from the chirpy lady behind the bar. There is a great selection of ales, bitters, ciders and beers available(even some locally produced ones) to buy from the bar all very nicely displayed, just a shame it was wasted on me! The actual bar was full of folk enjoying a pint or three, main words there being full and enjoying. A booming success.
