Cooltrader

Cooltrader is basically a poor man’s Iceland. Although Chorlton Place is a bit of an eyesore, it is incredibly useful — I pop to the greengrocers’ shops for my fruit and veg, Quality Save for my toiletries and Cooltrader for my frozen goods. I’m not ashamed to shop here.
I tend to stay away from the own brand goods — 99p for a pack of fish fingers that’ll last me a month seems a little bit too cheap. However, you can usually pick up a decent pizza for around 99p or a couple of pieces of Young’s fish for around £1.49 — definitely cheaper than Morrison’s.
Cooltrader also sells a much wider range of non-​frozen goods than Iceland does. I’ve picked up 5 glass bottles of Pepsi here for just 99p. This week they’re offering special pancake day deals — a packet of Aunt Bessies pancakes for 99p and a squeezy lemon Jif for just 39p.
I get the feeling I’ve just reeled off the stock and prices available in this store. But what made my last visit really special was the fact that the staff were chatting to the customers (old ladies) who were clearly regulars. This was nice to see, as although it made my wait in the queue a little bit longer, this made it seem more like an independent store, adding to the charm of shopping in this ugly precinct.
