We’ve been searching for our local curry house for months, and finally gave Coriander a go last night. We booked a table in the restaurant, and although it was packed(Saturday before Valentine’s Day!) the service was friendly, professional and efficient. They brought poppadums to start whilst we browsed the menu — really crisp and tasty, with a delicious selection of chutneys(some gorgeous ginger pickle alongside the usual classics). The menu features all the traditional curries you’d expect, but it also has some more interesting additions such as goat, keema and duck curries! Lots of cool sundries too — the coriander special kulcha naan was delicious. Portion sizes were okay — not massive portions of rice but meant that we didn’t feel mega full as we usually do after a curry! Perhaps on a second visit we’d order one each. Lots of choice for wine — we opted for a nice bottle of Malbec at £20 and it really did the trick. There was a dessert menu too but it looked pretty standard, the classic frozen sweet treats you seem to find in Indian restaurants! Overall, really impressed with Coriander and we’ll definitely be back. They do takeaway too(collection only) so worth the trip to collect!

I have never been here before but we was at my partner friends party in Chorlton and when we left we were hungry, so decide to go for some food it was about 10.20 in the evening so was glad for a table being late. My first impression from the outside its really modern and clean, when I went in the same feeling was inside really clean and modern and the staff were very friendly. We ordered poppadoms to start with the sauces and they were lovely. For the main we shared a lamb curry some potatoes an onion rice and a pashwari nanna. I must say the food was delicious and really fresh. I would definitely go back next time I’m in Chorlton.

We ordered takeout from here and were very disappointed! I’d heard so many good things on here and from others, but neither of us really enjoyed our food. First off, the online ordering is terrible and needs a complete redesign. Once we managed to make it do what we wanted it to do, we ordered a lamb rogan josh, a paneer and spinach curry, a pilau rice, a garlic naan and a peshwari naan. The naan was packed in a tupperware which meant it was unfortunately quite ‘sweaty’(for want of a better word) when we got to it. When I opened my paneer and spinach curry my first thought was that it looked very unappetising. Sadly it was not delicious at all. It was a pretty small portion for the price and was quite stingy with the paneer. The overarching taste of the dish was bitterness, which was not pleasant. It was also very watery. My boyfriend liked his slightly more but did mention that it was watery, small portion, barely any lamb, and that it lacked the depth and richness that you can usually expect from a curry. Rice was fine, nothing to write home about but no complaints. My garlic naan tasted again very bitter, like burnt garlic, but he liked his peshwari naan well enough. Maybe we ordered badly, but even if what we ordered weren’t their best dishes they were really not very good at all.

I really liked Coriander. The staff were very polite, friendly and fast. The venue was clean and fitted out well. I can’t really fault it. I visited the restaurant with my brother, who describes himself as a ‘supertaster’… meaning he literally can not eat spice without crying. After ordering the second dish which was mild, he found it to be too spicy(I tried it and couldn’t taste any spice). The waiter saw that my brother was finding it too spicy and came across to our table offered a number of options to cool the curry down. Now that’s customer service! We didn’t even ask. I has the mixed meat starter to begin with and although the presentation wasn’t the best the food tasted great. I then went on to Coriander Lamb meatball curry which was melt in your mouth so tender. The on tap cobra beer was ice cold, the food full of flavour and the staff were excellent! I really recommend giving this place a try!

Quite possibly the best curry I’ve had in Manchester. This place has been open for a year and is the third in their mini chain with the original place being further up Barlow Moor road opposite Souther Cemetery and a second in Withington. All have won various awards I believe. It’s Bengali Indian style cooking. Their food was delicious throughout. I came for a catchup with a couple of friends and we all agreed it was the best curry we’d had in ages. I had a shared mix meat starter which was tasty from the onion bhaji to the chicken to the sausage shaped kebab thing. I had chicken with spinach for my main and we shared pilau rice and a peshwari naan. It was all really fresh and well cooked. My friends had coriander chicken and Bengal venison — not often seen but a surprising treat! They’ve also got Cobra and Bangla beer on tap. I like a good Peshwari naan and this was one. I’ve had some odd ones in other places that were dry/mega crumbly/had glacé cherries/other weird stuff. Apparently it’s really tricky to get right! I think I was spoilt growing up as our local curry place was really good and I’ve frequently been disappointed with curries houses in Manchester in the decade I’ve lived here. Not at this place. I also liked the look of the place with a nice mix of old and new style blended. There was a picture of a peacock and a fishing village but also lime coloured neon lights and padded lime and purple squares on the walls. Ok, It’s nicer than that sounds! It all looked very fresh and appealing. There’s also another room in the back as this place is popular. The only down sides were that the floor of the ladies loos was damp with wet footprints all over, hopefully from just being mopped? Also waited for ages for a beer and had to reorder. Overall though the staff were very attentive and friendly. I will return, obviously.
