I popped here on a Saturday night to see a friend off who was moving to the States to work and wow — what an experience! Whether this was a good/bad/average experience I’m not sure — but it was definitely an experience! Put it this way, on a Saturday night — the main pub actually seems to become a dance floor playing all the classics of soul while middle/later age peeps put on their glad rags and dance around living the dream like John Travolta in Saturday night fever. And why not… What’s weird is that everyone is still just sat around drinking their pints of Hydes casually while the queue for the bar merges with the ‘dance floor’ — put it this way, one bump out of the queue and you could find yourself doing the waltz with a mid 50’s blonde in a matter of moments. Beer is fairly average Hydes stuff(Summer Ale was best of a bad bunch) — but for entertainment value and a sense of WTF — this was a cool night out.

Yumming in the suburbs. This is a super nice, super cheap pub out Dids-way. It’s just off the high street in East Didsbury. Why was I there? My SO is doing a master’s at the uni, and she’s gotten a rather nice deal on a room the the Did. It’s a ways out, but that’s the equivalent of Brixton to Kennington– or possibly even shorter. In any case. The good: A nice quiet place to have a drink. CAMRA stylings(6 taps, I think?) with minimal beardywierdieness. Plus, supercheap prices(£4.85 for 2 pints!!!). Bright lights like most pubs in the north, which is unfortunate. Wanders through loads of little rooms. Northern friendliness. No football screens. Just a place to sit & drink. Downside? Bright lights. Fruit machines(why everyone has them, as they’re never in use and can’t return the cost of electricity and they’re generally horribly annoying, is beyond me). Still and all, a good place. I liked it and will be back– and not just for the prices.

This is a lovely traditional Hydes pub with great beers and a nice beer garden, but there’s one awful barman who can make you feel very uncomfortable if you are under 30 and not one of his regulars. When he’s behind the bar, he’ll serve all the regulars before you even if you’re in the queue first. Then he’ll be surly and rude when he finally does get to you. I don’t know what his problem is, but judging by similar reviews below, he doesn’t just behave like this with my group of friends. My tip is to go during the evening on a weekend. They tend to have a lot more bar staff on then, so you’ve got less chance of getting the mean one! Plus, all the other bar staff are very nice and there can be a great atmosphere, particularly in the summer when you can enjoy your beer outside. The prices are good too, particularly if you go for the Hydes seasonal ale, which is always great value!

Like some of the other reviewers on here I recieved some intimidation from a member of staff at the Fletcher Moss who seems to dislike anybody under the age of thirty! This adds to a really strange atmosphere in this pub, it doesn’t feel particularly friendly or welcoming! It can be okay for a quiet midweek drink but better beer than Hydes can be found in Didsbury.

I’d first heard of this pub a long time before I’d even been to Didsbury. It was still some exotic far-flung suburb to me, as I rarely made it any further out of the city centre than Fallowfield. As a student in Manchester, however, you cannot fail to have heard about the Didsbury Dozen — a pub crawl targeting 12 of Didsbury’s watering holes. I personally never did the dozen, but I knew several people who did. There are several pubs that welcome the pub crawlers with open arms, several that would probably rather they weren’t there but couldn’t afford to kick them out, and a couple who are totally against the concept and will not allow pub crawlers onto their premises. Fletcher Moss is an example of the latter, and I had heard stories about the nasty spoil-sport of a manager at this pub. However, five years on, and I am much older and wiser. I appreciate good beer and music that will not drown out your conversation. On setting foot in the Fletcher Moss I was not at all surprised that the management had refused to serve pub crawlers. It is a quiet CAMRA pub with no loud music and no football. Some would class this as a boring pub, but the older I’m getting the more I find myself enjoying visits to places like this.

The best pub in Didsbury by a country mile and probably the best pub in the Manchester area! Top bar staff who seem to actually WANT to be there, unlike some of the staff in the other pubs in the village. Top quality Hydes ale and ever changing Guest ales from around Britain. Great atmosphere, great staff, great pub, NICEONE!!!

I’m inclined to agree with’hot-ice-999′ on this one. The last time I went to Fletcher Moss my group also experienced some unwanted and(I feel) undeserved intimidation from the staff. We had been informed that we weren’t buying enough drinks to warrant staying there and it was made clear we weren’t welcome there unless we made a purchase from the bar immediately. I have to admit it may be possible that the chatting had overtaken our trips to the bar but I’ve never experienced such a reaction to this before in a pub, and certainly not been confronted about it in such an abrupt manner. I do generally like the atmosphere of the Fletcher Moss but I think unless I was constantly propping up the bar I probably wouldn’t be welcome there again, and I prefer to have the option to socialise when I’m out with friends.

This is a great place to go on a Friday straight after work when all you want is an uncomplicated pint without the hassle of having to bother wrestling to get to the bar. It’s cosy, has a good atmosphere, and has no pretentions. Ace.

My local and definitely my favourite pub in the area. Great staff, good prices and regular live entertainment. A good pub that attracts a decent crowd and where you feel comfortable and can strike up friendly banter with just about anyone.

Best pub in Didsbury and has been for many years. I live in Canada and whenever I return to the UK its the only pub I visit as it is the best place to go. A great Landlord and Landlady — and always a lot of very interested and fun people from all walks of life and a good age range. If there is one thing I miss about the UK it’s the friendly fun pub environment.

Looking for a pub in Didsbury that isn’t frequented by the under-25s? Want to be able to hear yourself think thanks to a no music policy? Want to be able to wander into a pub on a Sunday afternoon without having to share it with people watching the football? Then this may be the ideal place for you. Slightly off the Didsbury beaten track, but all the better for it. Good range of Hydes ales and surely the only pub in Didsbury that sells bags of olives as as a snack! Quiz night every first Monday of each month.

I have to agree with karlflorczak, going out in Dids can be a bit of a stressful experience as every pub is rammed at the weekend. Being set slightly back off Wilmslow Road means that no-one really knows about the Fletcher Moss, therefore you can get to the bar without getting in a scrum and have a chat with your mates. Hydes beer is pretty good too. I remember them doing a ‘Golden Reign’ for the Jubilee celebrations which was about 8%. It really hit the spot.
