DIMSUM!!! Living in Southern California for most of my life, I became very acquainted with Dim Sum. It’s one of those things that, as you’re sitting around with your mates on a Sunday morning trying to figure out what to eat, one person chirps in, «dim sum?» and next thing you know, you’re hauling off to get stuffed to the brim on a plethora of Hong Kong-style treats. I’ve had lots of dim sum, and friends, this is dim sum. They offer normal restaurant fares on most days, and even dim sum choices during lunches, but I’d suggest you go on weekend mornings where you get the HK experience of push carts being mulled around the room so you can pick and choose what you want to eat as it’s being waved in front of you. Don’t be afraid of the brown chicken feet. They’re delicious. Just spit out the bones and let the meat melt in your mouth. If you’re not daring enough to try some of the more… ahem…authentic style dishes, you can get something more in the middle — they offer plenty of sticky rice(rice wrapped in leaves with sausages and peanuts, lots of flavour), buns filled with a variety of meats, shao lin bao(think dumpling but with a little soup in it — as you bite into it, it leaks), and of course the standard shrimp or pork dumplings that everyone knows and loves. This is a gigantic restaurant and it’s located on top of the Asian-style supermarket, so if you get your fill of grub here and have a hankering to make some more later, you can stop by the market to pick up bao or frozen dumplings. Staff is friendly and quick. Carts offer loads of choices and aren’t too pushy. The food quality is pretty up there — I’ve had better, but only in Hong Kong and in Los Angeles — this is definitely the best HK-style food I’ve had in the UK. Do yourself a favour and check this restaurant out. I’m sure their dinners are good too, but try the dim sum!
