Surely one of Manchester’s hidden treasures, the Levenshulme Antiques Village is a seriously sizeable place selling seriously quality furniture and assorted goods in one of the last places in Manchester you’d expect. Situated in the former Levenshulme Council Offices and adjacent police station, the Antiques Village is the place to go for stuff with a story, beautiful old furniture at a very reasonable price, or just a good browse for an hour or two on a Sunday morning. You can find almost anything here, from old typewriters, antique lifebuoys, 1966 World Cup memorabilia, and much much more. The Village is split into four areas. The old Council Offices have primarily furniture and professional dealers. The Old Cop Shop next door has a professional dealer with an eclectic mix of knick-knacks and furniture(from armchairs to antlers). And behind both buildings a series of garages are rented out to high-end car boot sale types. Finally, a couple of outbuildings house door/fireplace warehouses. A fun morning out for anyone, and a great place for adding spark to a room renovation. Make sure you explore all three floors of the Council Offices — the basement just goes on and on.

I’ve seen these TV shows where Kirsty Alsop goes round finding vintage furniture and second hand fireplaces, but the closest I’ve ever come to finding a place like this before was some sorry looking clearance place where a family has sold on granny’s possessions for a quick buck. But this is something different — the building is really impressive, and it’s nice to see the old council offices being put to good use. The antiques village itself is room after room piled high with all manner of different styles of furniture and bric a brac. You could easily furnish a house with decent furniture on a tight budget here. On the day I visited, there was even a Sinclar C5 on sale in one room! The place is an easy walk from Levenshulme train station and well worth a trip. There’s also a café and toilets on site.

This place is great, open all the time even on Sundays, you will find all sorts of bric-à-brac, bazary things to decorate your house, your garden, your shed or your business. Not just old things but revamped furnitures or plain oak ones, old school pupil desks etc… There are quite a few workshops around and at the back of the main place too so sniff around and come back often.

What treasure trove! I could spend hours and many of my well earned pounds here. Levenshulme antiques village has a market feel to it, with different stores in each room of the old Levenshulme council building. The building its self is a beautiful antique. Find anything from wardrobes to fireplaces or even dishes and plates. if you’re looking for a nice little trip out then try coming here, there’s plenty to explore and a café(which I’ve yet to try.) If you’re looking for high quality furniture — go here. More expensive than Ikea, but made from solid wood and will last a life time. Don’t forget to haggle I bagged a beautiful dark wood coffee table with copper detailing for £60. Bargain.

I love it in there! Levenshulme Antiques Village truely is Manchester’s best ket secret. Great people/characters, good food and interesting items for sale. Plenty of parking. I’ve had bought many an item there over the years as well as had furniture expertly repaired and restored. People need to check out the units in the yard to the back of the building. Some traditional trademen with skills and stuff for sale to match. Don’t know why people buy that crappy flat pack furniture that never lasts, when they can buy beautiful solid old furniture that will stand the test of time, for less money too.

Ken Morrison certainly is a character — I’ve been visiting him in Levenshulme for years after he moved from a shop in Prestbury. I bet watching Antiques Roadshow with him would double the fun! I’ve found him the perfect person for helping me find those ‘special somethings’ that transform a space or room. He’s visited me at home and come up with ideas of the sort of pieces of furniture or nic nacs that will look right in a non– too-special 50s semi and found bargains to match my pocket. In fact he’s responsible for my passion for collecting cruet sets! Because he really cares about his punters and his stock, he’ll advise against getting anything too big or small or out of proportion. In fact, I’m surprised he isn’t used by interior designers to source items from auctions. All in all the village is a great spot to while away some happy hours and you never know what you will find.

One of things I love about living in Levenshulme is looking round the Antiques Village on a Sunday afternoon. There are three floors of pre-war furniture, household objects, chandeliers, toys, medals, vintage jewellery and other collectibles. Over the years I’ve noticed the prices going up a little but it’s still great value for money. The last time I went I came away with a beautiful vintage sewing box that I found amongst various ornaments and bric-á-brac. In the basement you’ll find a café which does a mean weekend breakfast and serves good food throughout the day. The building itself is also noteworthy. Built in 1898, it was originally the Town Hall. The original mouldings and green tiles are still existence. The Antiques Village is a five minute walk from Levenshulme Station and a ten minute drive from Manchester City Centre.
