Is really give it 3. The service was very slow. The food was SUPER hot(warm). First I had to wait for the food then I had to wait for it to be eatable. The hot towel at the end is a good gesture but it was so HOT that it burnt my hands

Very expensive for what you get. Add a very long wait for food and I have to say I was less then impressed. The dishes we did have were average for what is rated here on Unilocal as one of the better Chinese restaurants. The Yang Chow fried rice was sub-par. Seemed like the rice was old. Not a place I’ll be returning to.

We stopped by for lunch, and had a great selection of dim sum. Service was great, prices are good — and some of the dishes are things we don’t see on our local dim sum menus. A great choice.

We arrived on a Saturday evening to a packed out restaurant. There was even a Chinese family dining, which is always a good sign. We waited 15 minutes for a table, not outrageous considering it was the weekend. The wait staff dutifully asked us for drinks. Two of us were seated at a four person table, which is just as we’ll cause we ordered quite a lot of food. Pak choi with oyster sauce Mongolian lamb Crispy chilli beef Prawn crackers Pot of Chinese tea Everything tasted decent without being really good. Nothing was terrible but for some reason, other than the Pak choi, nothing really tasted authentically, home cooked. The crispy chilly beef could have been crispier and spicier. In general the food was what you might expect of your usual British Chinese food, which isn’t bad but just a little sad for the consumer. Maybe it’s time for us to get a taste of what real traditional and authentic Chinese food is like and not some watered down version that caters for the mass british publics palate. At least I hope this isn’t the type of food eaten by Chinese folk. Mainly because I’d hate to think there were people in China having to eat the generic, overly vinegary sweet and sour sauce that they seem to put on all of the dishes in these types of restaurants in the UK! The staff on the whole were very attentive but they did send our food/drinks to the wrong table twice. They checked into see how our food was several times. If it’s British Chinese food your after then this is your place.

Absolutely love Little Yang Sing. The staff are extra efficient, very welcoming and the food seems to be freshly made(although I could be wrong). There is one particular staff member Jo Jo who is very funny and loves a good chin wag, the stories she tells are hilarious! Would highly recommend Little Yang Sing to anyone after a good Chinese.

For nearly 40 years the Yang Sing has been one of the premier Chinese restaurants in China Town. Specialising in Cantonese food, it has a reputation for style, quality, service and ambiance. It’s little brother completely lives up to that standard. If your experience of Cantonese food is over cooked meat glued with sticky sauce, eating here will transform your perspective. Certainly my companion on this visit didn’t recognise the dishes she thought her mainstays when they arrived and was astounded by how genuinely impressive high quality Chinese food can be. Less adventurous than me we played it safe with sweet and sour pork, chicken chow main with crispy noodles and chilli crispy beef. Portions were large and despite our best efforts we took a full meal away with us at the end. Service is immaculate, attentive and friendly and our every need was spotted almost before we knew it. Pricier than most of its rivals but justifiably so. A must if you want to sample Manchester at its best.

the crab taste good and most importantly for seafood, it’s fresh. good value, good portion. one thing I don’t like, they put too much ginger inside the dish. if I have been told there’ll be ginger, I would told them to hold it. me and ginger, it’s personal, I can’t stand the taste of ginger. other than that, the whole experience was great. I speak Cantonese, so I overheard that they were still hiring waitresses. I have recommended some friends live in London, to try this restaurant, when they ask me to recommend Chinese restaurant in London.

Wasn’t overly impressed with Little Yang Sing, the music was chilled and relaxing but there wasn’t a great atmosphere. The food itself was a bit disappointing — the starters were a bit blank. The duck meat was good but the pancakes were dry and crispy! The main again was ok but nothing again! I don’t think ill be making a visit again any time soon.

Was years since I’d eaten here but was at a party near Chinatown and decided to pop in for a bite to eat late at night. Still pretty busy and was just glad to find somewhere still taking orders at 11.30pm. Admittedly they said we could only order one course each but at this point something was better than nothing. Food good and tasty, had the beef in black bean sauce as per usual!

A beautifully decorated Chinese restaurant located in the basement, I initially thought it would be a small restaurant but I couldn’t of been more wrong, it’s massive(compared to restaurants I’ve visited before). It’s décor is typical for a Chinese restaurant. There was a Daytime menu as it was before 5pm, 2 courses for £13(approx), a banquet menu £30pp min of 2 persons and of course a normal menu which had a lot to choose from. The food was lush and reasonably priced. We ordered Pork and Vegetable Dim Sum, ½ Crispy Aromatic Duck, Chicken Satay, Beef in Black Bean Sauce with Green Peppers chow mein, chips, rice and prawn crackers(OK, not a very adventurous Chinese meal but still, it was GOOD!) with a few cokes and a jug of water for the table it was £62. There’s a LOT of waiters/waitresses wondering about and they are real friendly, however, on occasions I felt as though they lurked around your table a little, I don’t think that was intentional but it felt like they were waiting to pounce as soon as you moved your lips — this is the reason I didn’t go for a 5* rating. Overall, I recommend this place! It would be a fab place to go with a big group of friends! And if you do go… Enjoy!

Little Yang Sing is a big nicely decorated restaurant with a very friendly waitress but the initial good impression it made started to go rapidly downhill. The menu is weird, maybe it’s just heavily Westernized. For example, there are a couple of pages with headings like«black bean dishes,» «curry sauce dishes,» «satay sauce dishes» over lists of the different meat options with prices. Not very inspiring. Also, is satay«traditional Cantonese»? They do have a dim sum selection though, which was all right(char siu not great) although it all came at different/inappropriate times. The crispy duck was disappointing. Main dishes we had some BBQ pork which wasn’t that great and stir fried mixed vegetables which were a bit boring but ok. The guys next to us had things that looked slightly better so I wouldn’t totally write Little Yang Sing off but I think we ordered enough to get an impression of the general standard and it’s not somewhere I would come back to before trying the rest of what Chinatown has to offer.

I had a hankering for Chinese. Did a little bit of research on the subject and turned up this little gem of a place. Talk about awesome, I have a new yardstick on which to measure all other Chinese restaurants. They will have to be exceedingly brilliant if they want to top Little Yang sing. I was tempted by the Dim Sum Menu but when I read what was on the menu I went fro that instead. I did order a mixture of steamed and fried dim sum to start and then went straight for the crispy chilli beef which was to die for. Some white rice on the side and that was dinner. An excellent choice if you are looking for some quality Chinese food in Manchester.

One of the best Chinese food locations found in Manchester. This is where you will find actual Chinese people eating here. Excellent and top notch for the area.

We had the regular Dim Sum platter and Kung Pao Tofu. The platter comes with two steamed and three fried items. I much preferred the steamed items and will probably order a la carte if I return to get a higher steamed to fried ratio. The Kung Pao tofu was excellent. Service excellent.

Me and a friend decided to go here as it looked like the most decent place in China Town(plus we couldn’t be bothered walking all the way down the road) and I was really pleased to discover that it was lovely! The mood is really chilled, the service was wonderful and the food was lovely. We were assigned a lovely waitress who looked after us really well, filling up our wine glasses and even taking the chopsticks out of the wrapper. I suggest the soft shell salt and pepper crab starter, it was wonderful. And also you only have to really order one portion of rice as it comes in a big pot and filled us both up! It was also reasonably priced, around £45 for two mains, sides, a sharing starter and a bottle of wine– perfect! I’ll definitely go back here, it was lovely.

Easily the best Chinese restaurant in Manchester City Centre! We go here quite a lot and have given up on all the other restaurants in China Town. Its not cheap but every bite is worth the money. The staff are very helpful from the moment you walk in and the service throughout the meal is great. Every time we have been here the food hasn’t taken long to arrive and always smells fantastic! We often ask for all our food(mainly dim sum) to be brought to the table all together so we can nibble and mix and match what we eat. There is a fantastic vegetarian selection.

Yang Sing’s baby sibling has really come into its own. Located in a plush yet beautifully simple basement space just off Princess or Portland Street, depending on what direction you’re coming from, it’s situated near many popular bars making it the perfect drop in to line one’s stomach before a night on the tiles. And it’s in Manchester’s China Town also, appropriately. There are fabulous banquets to choose from but this place also shines bright when you order the a la carte. It’s somewhat more expensive than the fare you might be used to in China Town, but it is worth trying due to its sterling reputation. The staff are more than accommodating and often you won’t need to book; they will squeeze you right in even on weekends. The music adds to the peaceful ambience of the place and the quality of the food is bang on. Something to try at least once.

Beautiful surroundings in this basement restaurant — that really doesn’t feel like it by the way — simple red and white, real classy. So, you could understand paying a little more than some standard Chinese restaurant particularly as Little Yang Sing, as with its larger partner in crime, promises special authenticity for their Cantonese food. Now for the authenticity, I really cannot vouch for that myself but it was pretty pricey in here compared to what I am used to. Personally, I didn’t think that the food was worth the prices but others may differ. I had the sliced duck with orange sauce which was fine at £9.50 but with the exception of their vegetarian dishes, almost everything else was more expensive with £3/£4 each going to dim sum and appetizers.

My Britain Rough Guide states about Yang Sing: «The Yang Sing is one of the best Cantonese restaurants in the country with thoroughly authentic food…» and then describes the Little Yang Sing as the«celebrated basement restaurant(forerunner to the larger Yang Sing)…» So, of course I had to try it. A basement restaurant in San Francisco or New York Chinatown is a hole in the wall restaurant that makes ‘to die for’ food. The Little Yang Sing is FAR from it. It is the nicest basement restaurant I’ve ever been to. So much, that I was the only Chinese person eating there. I doubt the locals eat at Little Yang Sing. At that realization I remembered the guide is to the general public, so most people who go aren’t Cantonese like me. Speaking of Cantonese… though it’s Cantonese food all the workers were speaking Mandarin. Anyways, I was on vacation. So I said why not, I’ll give it a shot and see how authentic it is. It was authentic, though not completely. However, everything was very good which trumps any authenticity questions. I had the 3 course meal for 11.95. I didn’t think the pricing was too far off. So no complaints. I ate by myself… so I don’t know why they had to sit me in a corner…
