I probably need to give 2 reviews for this place: one for the time I went there in the middle of the week when there was absolutely nobody and they had 80s music on! the second for the few times I’ve been there to watch a game were the atmosphere was great and it was packed! they have few screens meaning that even if it’s very busy you should be able to see the game! We also stayed once when a band was playing music which was nice! staff is friendly! we had a nice surprise once when we got free chips and sausage in the middle of the game! A tip: if you are planning to watch an Irish game /gaelic, etc. and you want to have a seat you should arrive very early as it is small and seems to be the meeting point of all irish leaving in Manchester! Tip No2: they have a room upstair probably as big as the ground floor one that is accessible through a small stair. No sign is indicating that it exists!

Great pub to keep track of all the GAA games for all us irish over in manchester! They also show all the big football and rugby games! Its always packed when big games are on and also gets good turn outs for their live traditional irish music!

Top pub this for most occasions… well maybe not for a quiet pint but everything else. Was here on Boxing Day and watched the second half of the Utd game, it’s a decent place to watch the football. However this pub has many good things going for it without the football; great atmosphere, live acts, good Guinness, this Irish crisps and proper pub feel. Definitely recommend anyone to give this place a try if you’ve not been. It’s a small place and gets absolutely rammed but as stated at the start, as long as you’re not looking for a quiet pint you won’t go far wrong here.

Mulligans — A home away from home for me! Lets begin by saying, its a little cramped in here when it gets busy. My latest trip here was no exception. Maybe the live band and it’s following didn’t help either! However, it just adds to the feel of this lovely little pub! The staff are friendly with out a doubt, however maybe not the brightest bunch of girls. they poured the Guinness incorrectly & they didn’t know how to make half the drinks we asked(Irish Car Bomb, Irish Flag or a Shamrock Rover)… IT was funny teaching them how to work! The pub is clean and well looked after and all the county flags on the ceiling helped to make it feel even more Irish. I feel this is going to be a regular haunt for me from now on!

Altogether now. Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling… A back street Irish pub with proper spirit. With acoustic live bands on most nights, this public Irish house is rammed every night. Familiar Mancunian celebs hang out here all the time such as, Mikey from Shameless and Andy Sugden from Emmerdale. Dudes. It’s lively and these boys aren’t afraid to join in the pint clashing and a good old knees up. If you fancy a humbling night of beer drinking with a mate or a group of mates, this is THE best pub in Manchester. I’m not just saying that because my memory of Mulligans is after 12 pints of Guinness and 3 shots of Sambuca. Girls: don’t go in a ball gown and heels — be comfortable, wear flats, enjoy yourself and forget what you look like.

I feel a little sheepish putting up this review looking at the sea of 5 stars to my right. Mulligans is a typical pub, décor is what you’re minds eye of a pub is. I’m not a massive fan of places that are so heaving you can’t move, Friday night this is mulligans. Doing back of a fag packet maths you could probably sit 40 people in there, add another 15 – 20 at the bar and it would be full… It’s not like that I’d wager there were maybe 100 people in there with another bundle outside doing the Cig smoking rotation, it was heeeeaving. Add to that they had a band on, so it was heaving with the addition of a few people trying to dance… Mulligans is not big enough for people to dance, Mulligans is not big enough for you to stretch out let alone gyrate to the beat: p I would wager that early week or during the day Mull is pretty awesome, when it’s quieter and easy to move around in it. I can’t really talk much about what’s at the bar, I couldn’t see most of the bar for people, so I have no idea if they even have ales on. I ended up with a bottle of Desperado(See I’m diverse in my drinking habits), from what I could see the bar had on a pretty standard selection for manchester bars. It was rather surreal that on the TV was WWF(or is it WWE now, I’m old it was WWF when I was younger and I haven’t had a massive desire to keep track) The location of Mulligans is strange, it feels like it should be a lot quieter being that its down a back street, I previously kinda knew it was there, but never thought it would be somewhere anyone else would want to go, turns out I was wrong. Certainly not put off ever going again, but maybe I’ll avoid Friday night next time

Its great to go to a proper Irish boozer that hasnt fallen in to the clutches of the chain pub malarkey. The Guinness was a great pint and you can always tell a good Guinness house when the pints are lined up at the bar waiting to settle and to be topped up. It was reasonably priced and the atmosphere was good craic. It is always our first port of call when in Manchester for a pub crawl.

If you are tired of the fake Oirish cheer offered by O’Neills, etc then Mulligans is definitely the place to go. I ventured here on a Sunday night and was treated to a great time. Having been to Ireland to visit relatives many, many times, this brought back memories of what a real Irish bar should be like. It’s welcoming and friendly with a great live music. if you want a proper Irish pub then give the theme bars a swerve and come to a place like this.

I once had an Norn’ Irish housemate who used to complain about the English. She didn’t mind me, obviously, but her ex-boyfriend who’s still a good friend of mine hilariously accused her of being racist. Perhaps the way she views the English is indeed racist, but the way he said it had me in stitches. Moving swiftly on, one of the wonderful things my housemate introduced me to was Magners. In the time I knew her, Magners went from being something you could only find in an Irish pub to a nationwide cider phenomenon, seen in the hands of both Celts and we humble English roses alike. There’s even a pear version available now. It’s all scrumptious. Going back to the traditional roots of Magners cider though, when it was a delicacy, my Irish housemate took my crowd to Mulligans. A place that not only supposedly sells the best pint of Guinness in all of Manchester, but also served this elusive Magners, which I fell in love with. It also offered something which was then unique but now equally widespread… coated peanuts. Ommm. Mulligans is so cosy that you’ll set up home there on a cold and miserable Sunday and never want to leave. There’s a nice warm fire, big comfy chairs and a friendly ambience to the place, and it’s secluded enough not to attract the generic town-rabble. Now that you can get Magners everywhere, it’s definitely still worth going to Mulligans for that traditional Irish feel, and there are certainly some things in residence that do remain exclusively Celtic. ‘You can take our Magners,’ shouts Mulligans, ‘but you can never take… ourrr… TAYTOCRISPS!!‘ Too late, they sell them in Home Bargain at 10p a pop. Anyway, don’t be going to O’Shea’s or Waxy’s this St. Paddy’s day, get yonselves to a proper Oirish pub.

Mulligans is a tiny Irish Bar in Manchester that many of you will never find. It is tucked away, behind the thundering thoroughfare that is Deansgate, and, still, despite its awkward location and size, it is always packed — and I mean packed. The pub is tiny, and can probably hold 30 comfortably, and there are always at least double this number in Mulligans. I first experienced Mulligans when very ‘merry’, and spent at least 4 hours there on a Friday night in November. There was amazing live music, sandwiches, chips and all sorts of munch being passed around, which, for me, means that I am staying put! The drink was flowing, the laughter was ringing through the pub, and I had a grand old time. Mulligans confirms one of my hunches about Irish Bars. There is something about them which allows people to let their guard down, and for one, be friendly to one another, whether or not you know each other or not. I wish it happened in more bars. The atmosphere in Mulligans is warm and friendly, and definitely makes you want to go back. The drinks are well priced, and the food(although not specifically orderable) is fantastic. Drop in and try it out — you will not be disappointed.

Having not attended Mulligan’s in the evening, I can attest that, for an early snifter, it’s pretty decent pub. Mercifully, for an Irish boozer, it avoids the hokey Oirishness for the most part but, obviously, the fact that I know it’s an Irish pub means that it does fall foul of it slightly. However, that’s not really important. The mark of a good Irish pub is the quality of the stout and, it has to be said, Mulligan’s pulls a decent enough pint. As it was a fleeting visit, I didn’t get chance to sample the food, but what was on offer(if memory serves) looked good enough in terms of pub-grub. What did stick in my mind was the choices of whisky that was on offer. This is a decent little pub in the middle of a lot of average and, sadly, downright grim modern bars. You should pop in.

It’s rare to find a pub that channels the Irish spirit without it becoming a false veneer, thinly stretched over the blackened heart of commercialism. Mulligans is one place that actually does this, by not selling itself on the Irishness and instead allowing people to just find their own way there. It’s a comfortable and welcoming little place, with a fireplace and armchairs, so you know it’s got to be good. Plus they sell bags of Tayto crisps, which practically proves the Irish vein runs through it.

I popped in this pub for a little nostalgia on friday afternoon and a lovely glass of guinness. There was a great athmosphere and lots of people enjoying themselves. The staff are very friendly and there is pub grub. I did not have any food but the menu looked pretty good. There were a few TV. s on showing sport and I am sure that when Ireland are playing rugby its a very busy place. I will be popping in again soon while in the area as its a class little spot.

Be fecking Jesus this a good pub. Proper Irish, not themed. Really cosy, friendly and inviting. Made all the better for being just off the beaten track, the best place to enjoy a Guiness in Manchester. Just a shame it shuts so early– I’m still getting used to this about Manchester.

We’ve been coming down to Manchester from Scotland for years in search of a decent Irish bar. Mulligans is the best we’ve found. Great music, best Guiness in town, and Gena & Joe are excellent hosts. If you want a night of music, Irish jive and great craic, Mulligans is the place to be. Well done to James, nearly 70 and still dancing with the best of them!

Mulligan is a nice break from the typical trendy bars and restaurants that are all over Manchester. Mulligan is a cosy little Irish pub that is very central yet off the beat and track. I have only been in Mulligans a couple of time but the atmosphere was great and really warm and welcoming. It seems like the sort of pub that has a lot of locals that like to spend their time there socialising and having a few drinks and a laugh with some mates. I was really surprised to fid quite a mixed variety of people when I went, it seems that anyone can just pop in to Mulligans for a quite life, no matter what walk o life they are from. The bar staff are extremely polite and well mannered, I wasn’t served by an Irish person but that didn’t really take too much away from the atmosphere. The décor was quite basis but warm, the walls were brick work and part wallpaper with pictures and other artefacts on the wall. It reminded me of my local pub back in Scotland, small and warm and very homely looking. The drinks seem to be that of any other small pub, beer and lager on draft with carious bottles and spirits. Unsurprisingly there were a lot of people drinking Guinness there. I really enjoyed both times when I have been here it is quant and out of the way. I think on St Patrick’s day I would like to go in for a few drinks, I am sure the atmosphere with be even more amazing then.
