Slightly biased as a mathematician, but $\pi$ is an awesome place. The bar(like the place) is only small, but I can honestly say that all the beers I either have tried and loved, or, wanted to try. Unfortunately, as a responsible teacher with a 9am class the next day, I had to limit myself to one beer. However it was a fantastic one: ShinDigger black IPA(if you get a chance try it!). Only negative I can think about is the lighting was perhaps unnecessarily dark,(but I was too caught up in the beer to care). One of the best places for a drink in Manchester!

The pies are amazing, great beer selection of local beers and many beers from around the world. If you are a visiting the UK from abroad, this is definitely a place to taste the good side of the British cuisine. I would encourage you to be daring and try the minted peas. And if you are an expat, this is the place to combat the homesickness a bit by having your favourite beer from back home.

Having recently moved to Stretford just a short walk away from Chorlton, I was definitely keen on trying this place after the good reviews I read on Unilocal.I was not disappointed! There is a really impressive offering of beers from all over the world and a great selection on tap. After living in the north of France I was thrilled to be reunited with a range of reasonably priced Belgian beers! Then the pies… DELICIOUS. There were two veggie options and I opted for the Heidi though I’m not vegetarian due to the interesting mix of flavors(sweet potato, spinach, goat cheese, red onion, garlic). It was so good that I noted down the ingredients to try to replicate myself later. My dedicated carnivore of a boyfriend even said he preferred mine to his(which had steak and chorizo among other things… also very good!). The atmosphere is cozy and there are tables outside for when the weather is cooperative. The service is very friendly. I will definitely be coming back soon!

Pi. What a genius name, for a place that sells PIE! Before you’ve even gone there you have to say«, MMMPIE!» So, myself and fellow Unilocaler pie tourer have decided to sample the best pie eateries in the city. So that’s Pi in Chorlton and Pie&Ale in the Northern Quarter.(For now) I’ve been visiting Pi for some time. A scary amount of years infact! I’d say that the delicious Pieminster pies and the small place feel were not equalled, until Pie&Ale started with it’s on-site baked pies & contemporary surrounds a couple of years ago. Pi is a short wonder from the Chorlton tram stop, and toward Unicorn, and the Marble pub. You could have a pint in Marble, but to be honest the range of beer in Pi is extensive. This was the place that I found Boags Premium being sold, so that I can eternally be reminded of Austrailia! However tonight we are drinking pints of ale, both in handled glasses. We order our pies(£.495), and additional mash(£1), and share a gravy — which was ample enough to share. I had the beef pie, but nearly went for the matador. The menu rotates a little according to what Pieminster they have. There was also 2 veggie choices; which perhaps indicates the location we’re in given the menu is 4 pies large! I love the music in here, but at this stage I’m starting to find it a little loud to chat at a normal volume whilst eating. However, the food is great, and we also have a second ale with our meal.

If you read my weekend review of the Great Kathmandu, you will notice that we were supposed to head to Pi originally. Anyway, we made that trip today and this is again a quick update, to put all your minds at ease. Nothing has changed; the great tasting pies and sides, the laid back ambience, the friendly staff, everything is still here. If anything, it’s the frequency of our visits to Pi, that has changed, because the guy at the till actually said he hadn’t seen us in a while. This is another instance of an establishment proving its ability to deliver consistently over a significant period of time. Keep up the good work, guys!

I really like this place. Pi is a bit further out than the main bars on Wilbraham Road but is well worth the extra walk. They have a huge range of beers and the vibe is really laid back. I love the food here. There are 4 pies to choose from which cost £4.95. Sides such as mash, veggie gravy and minted pies are an extra £1 each so you can have a hearty meal for less than a tenner. The pies are made by pieminster my favourite being the Heidi pie which is crammed full of goats cheese, butternut squash and spinach. Get there early if you want a seat though as the place is always rammed.

Great atmosphere small and cozy, was a bit loud, but enjoyed going here. The staff were great. You can find a good range of beer. I did not eat here but I have heard good things will try them next time. I suspect they would be less loud of a weekday night.

Lovely little local bar that’s always got friendly staff and a quality beer available. Plus free nuts! I went here last night with my neighbour and we started off outside as it was pretty mild and it’s a nice spot to relax. Then we moved inside for a second pint as it was cooling down, although they provide blankets! The inside is dimly lit in a cosy womb like way and would be an excellent spot for a first date. There’s a good range of beers available with a ‘beer bible’ on each table. It’s fairly small inside and popular but you can still easily hear the person you’re with. They also serve really tasty pies and mash. I love the Heidi pie but you can’t go wrong. I also like the Camden Wit beer with lemon and bergamot flavours. Most of the beers are reasonably priced but watch out for the odd one that’s over £5!

Exactly what we needed on a rainy Sunday. In fact, it’s exactly what I need on any day of the week, any weather and at any stage of hunger. Let’s get this straight; it’s nothing fancy. You go in, find a seat(it’s really small so I imagine this can sometimes be difficult), choose a pie/beer, go to the bar and order. They serve Pieminister pies and usually have 4 to choose from(£4.95), then you choose one… or a combination… of the sides(minted mushy peas +£1, mash +£1, gravy +£1). I had the Shamrock; a pie packed with tender beef and vegetables in a Guinness gravy cased in tasty pastry, and minted peas. It was perfect. The pie was piping hot, the peas were a great accompaniment to the rich beefy gravy inside, and I topped it off with my own finishing touch — a guilt-ridden squirt of ketchup. To wash it down I chose Cascadian Black by Saltaire Brewery; very dark, smooth and tasty. When ordering a pint you’re asked if you want a handled glass — who doesn’t?! I really enjoyed the approach in this place. You know what you’re getting and you know it’s going to be good. There’s minimal decisions, no fuss, good beers and great pies. Top marks!

Great beers on tap, recently I have been trying the camden brewery beers. Also a great selection of continental beers. Don’t worry about the strong Belgian beer bringing on your appetite, the pie and mash is always certain to make you smile. They regularly change the flavours on offer and don’t forget to order sides of gravy and peas. Staff are also always very friendly and love to offer complimentary nuts with drinks.

Yeah this place rules. Minted peas, mustard mash, Pie Minster pies. It’s got a lovely bijou feel, all candles and art. I think this place is lovely to go with in a group and sit in the front window in a line all eating pie and drinking ales and ciders. I really go here for the feel. Dead chilled. Lovely for a romantic night.

Pi is a little slice of continental Europe on Manchester Road. Everything about it, from the awning to the blankets outside to the wooden interior to the selection of beer, screamed laid-back European cool to me. I went here with my mum, dad and sister in tow after they helped me move house. My dad immediately set upon the bar, where the friendly barmaid was more than happy to chat to him about his choices. The menu offers just four pies so we ordered all of them to share. We got talked into buying more sides than we originally wanted — whether this was genuine advice or shameless up-selling we may never know, but honestly at £5 per pie and then £1 extra each for mash, peas and gravy it wasn’t going to break the bank.(My sister thought this absurdly expensive — not sure if she is a miser or if her chosen city of Sheffield is a land of bargains.) To drink I had Gentleman’s Wit from Camden Brewery. Usually in bars like Pi I like to work my way across the bar but on a warm day I just didn’t want anything else, so stuck to it. A really delicious and refreshing beer. Now that I live within reasonable stumbling distance and the sun is becoming a little less shy, I can see myself becoming something of a regular at Pi.

Shockingly my first ever visit as I normally don’t venture too far from Oddest and Dulcimer. Fantastic local place with an interior layout of a grocery store. Was extremely busy for a Thursday night. Frequented mostly by locals the bar has a cosy, homely, dinner party vibe. Not a massive choice on the drinks front from first impressions but the cider on tap certainly had an earthy kick in the teeth kinda taste. Perfect meeting place before heading out, or a midweek catch up if conversation is your chosen form of entertainment.

Neighbourhood bar — check. A chilled out place to end the night after a whistle stop night out — check. A great selection of quality beers at a not too ridiculous price — check! Pi gets it right on all of the above and was one of the nicest spots I’ve hit while in Chorlton. Situated just opposite from Unicorn, the bar is kind of like sitting in a shop with high risen full fronted windows and probably wouldn’t sit more than 40 people throughout. For us it was perfect as there was a group of 8 who could easily take a load off on a Friday night and chat with the music not too loud and at 11pm’ish — not too busy as well. They have exciting and interesting beer menu’s on each table with the usual suspects from Belgium, the U. S craft beer revolution and local and UK ales on the pumps towards the back. The staff were friendly and fitted in perfectly with this being a kind of place you might pop out of your house for one before heading home to get on with family life. I love these neighbourhood places, I could just do with living nearby to do this… Due to eating at the nearby Tibetan Kitchen, I didn’t get the chance to try their pies but they’re all from the excellent pieminister so I’d highly recommend getting one if you’re in there through the day!

Nice small beer house, with an insane amount of draught and bottled ales, from all over the place. To keep you going there’s complimentary nuts and for something more considerable to eat there’s the best pies in the universe — Pie Minister pies. That’s all there is to it really, and it’s a good enough reason to go!

Great guest beers, cool atmosphere, and of course some good pies with sides to munch on. Pi serves a few Pieminister pies, along with some delicious mashed potatoes. You can also get a scoop of nuts to snack on while you wait for your pie to finish heating. The décor is pretty cool — art chic meets retro. A great small pub to meet up with mates, a lot of the tables are long so you might end up sharing with strangers, but there’s nothing wrong with that, is there? This is one of the better pubs in the area, and definitely worth stopping by if you’re in Chorlton.

Well after a long day Beer trekking, this was certainly a good place to end on a High. It’s a little place I’d use the term Cosy don’t know if at weekends it may end up uncomfortably cosy. Good beer on tap and bottled. Really nice pies for food. I had the Moo n Blue with minted mushy peas, mash n Gravy. My word it was very tasty. I think special note has to go to the use of Blue cheese in the pie, lots of places get it wrong they either put a whole block in killing anything else there or put a grain of blue cheese in making not a jot of difference, this pie has it ‘just’ right excellent Not sure how much else to say about this place as the above covers it.

Okay! So I came here for pie with Mummy H and was blown completely away. Basically we wanted to try the two veggie options, the Heidi and the Wild Mushroom, and as soon as I used the word share our lovely bartender said, ‘I can half each pie so you get two different halves on each plate if you like.’ Just before I nearly leaned over and hugged him, I said, ‘We were wondering if we could get one portion of — ’ ‘I can do you a half portion of mash and peas on each plate and a pot of gravy if you’re sharing.’ Get out of my head, Mr Amazing Pi Dude! Pieminister pies are always good, but the way they’re served can have a certain level of influence. These were done brilliantly… minted mushy peas, vegetarian gravy, the pies perfectly halved and warmed, buttery delicious mash, and it didn’t take long to arrive either. When one’s got the swimming pool/caffeine tremors and it’s cold outside only a pie will do, and this is now my favourite place to come for my fix. Plus, all four flavours of Timmermans? On the same menu as Delirium? Reasonable prices? Are you trying to *kill* me?
