Sometimes, a place just grabs you by the(insert gender-specific body parts here) and really appeals to you with an ultimate USP. It might not be completely flawless, but overall it works brilliantly. Well, all of this applies to Pin-Up Bowling of Spinningfields. And why isn’t it flawless? Because it’s only ruddy here temporarily. When I left here full-bellied but heavy-hearted, I knew it had got under my skin. I didn’t want it to go. The idea of its departure signalled great sadness within. The business district’s fast becoming a mecca of Manchester experimentation, of seasonal favourites. There’s our festive ice rink, the summer outdoor cinema, pop-up shops and art shows aplenty, even rides and stalls at Christmas, and now this. Not only is Pin-Up Bowling a great idea, but if you’re savvy you can save a pretty penny here too. For example the Yellowcard gets you 10% off food or 2 for 1 on cocktails anytime, and that’s one impressive list of cocktails to be choosing from. I ventured here on a Unilocal CMYE and indulged in some pre-bowling munch. One thing you may not know about me is that I’m obsessed with 1950s American diners. I think a visit to Starvin’ Marvin’s as a child clinched it. I want to eat where they split Eskimo Pies in Grease. Fries in a basket and tasty burgers just do it for me. And this is where with Pin-Up, the bowling the name boasts isn’t even the main attraction. You could come here happily for a game, or you could simply enjoy a date and an awesome meal. The veggie options were creative and made with as much enthusiasm as the meat ones. My falafel dog, nestled in a gigantic soft and doughy hot dog bun and smothered with herby tomato relish and melted cheese was nothing short of a revelation. Fries and slaw as standard, see. IN A BASKET! This went down an absolute treat. The SO and I also slurped a milkshake each, and I was muchos impressed at the thickness.(I like my milkshakes cementy.) He went for mint choc chip, but the best surprise in my strawberry flavour? Real chunks of strawberry. Heaven. There are four bowling lanes, and they’re tucked away enough in the corner so that if you’re simply restauranting or sitting at the bar, you’re there in peace. The soundtrack is one groovy collection of 50s classics, the service is lovely and while there’s a darkness to the place overall, each booth is floodlit brilliantly so there’s no worrying as to where your food is. Oh Pin-Up. Just as I was getting to know you, you’re up and leaving. You heartbreaker, you. Manchester needs you!

What a fantastic place to visit. it has such an authentic feel and makes you feel your back in the past. I am yet to experience a themed night but i will be going to the next one. defiantly take advantage of the beer and bowl before 5pm because it does get a bit expensive after that. the food is simple but does the trick and really fills you up. I would recommend getting a Springfield’s card as it reduces the price of a few things and extends the happy hour for card holders.
