I stumbled upon this gem from a tip of an Über driver. Every aspect of the experience was great. It was fast, affordible, and delicious. The breaded chicken was still hot after my walk to the hotel and the monstrous portion filled my jet-lagged appetite quickly. There is a chili sauce in the wrap I want to steal and put on everything I eat. I’m only in Manchester 5 days and I plan on making a return trip. UPDATE: I ate here three of the four nights I had in Rusholme. I’m still as satisfied with the visit! The absolute best kebab is the kobedah. I recommend getting the Chili and Yoghurt sauce on the side — you get much more and it’s fun for dipping! I don’t intend on staying in Rusholme during my next visit, however if I find myself in the area I’ll absolutely stop by.

This is a throwback favourite for students — but it should deserve a higher crown than that. The kobedah is the best in Rusholme & the chicken tikka on the bone is the best you will get anywhere. All kebabs come on fresh made, light and crispy bread with salad on a huge sheet of paper. Don’t expect plates. This place is casual & is dwarved by all the other bright lights surrounding it. It could do with a makeover, but that would probably ruin it! You might go & think«ugh look at the state of this place» — forget your judgements & just tuck in, you won’t regret it!

Being brand new to the world of Unilocal,I’m very disappointed to find one of my favourite cafes in Manchester being so obviously misunderstood. The Rusholme Chippy is not a chippy at all. Yes they do serve some English food but despite the name, which has obviously confused so many on here, it is the place where you will find the best Kobeda Kebab in Manchester! They’ve been serving these mouthwatering kebabs for over 30 years & were the first to do so in the area. The kebab is a minced lamb sausage style much like a kofte kebab, but infinitely better and is served on fresh naan with salad and extremely tasty sauces. For those with a healthy appetite, try a double — highly recommended! I hope this has cleared up the situation & will lead to other kebab lovers like myself visiting this fine and long-standing establishment.

Their Kobedeh kebabs are the best I have ever tasted. I have been coming to Rusholme Chippy for over 20 years since my student days and the qualiity is still great.

Oh! For real, English, chip shop chips! Believe me, when you live in central Manchester, they are not as easy to find as you might imagine. Nearly every fast food joint in the city centre serves French fries instead of old fashioned, thick cut chips, so when you find yourself somewhere like the Rusholme Chippy, it is a real treat to get your hands on some ‘proper’ chips. I first went into the Rusholme Chippy when leaving Saki Bar in search of proper sustenance, so when coming across it, my friends and I fell on it with glee. The food is, to be honest, yet another kebab house masquerading as traditional chip shop fayre(which is also served), which in Rusholme, makes a refreshing change from the endless numbers of solely Indian restaurants. The food is simple and straightforward, makes no attempt to be anything it isn’t, and, above all, is(in terms of chip shop food) good and honest. The eatery has a small seating area, which, sadly, is painfully uncomfortable to sit in, as the seating is entirely compiled of kidney-crunching bucket chairs, which are fixed to the floor. Yes, its unhealthy. Yes, its hardly nutritious. But once in a while — I am more than happy to dig in and enjoy a great big pile of Chips. It almost makes you feel patriotic.

Rusholme Chippy confuses the populace of Rusholme by having nothing to do with chippys in general, and a whole lot more to do with standard kebab shops. I’m guessing they picked the name to lure befuddled English people inside, because there’s not really another reason to visit. The food is average, so you can find better elsewhere, and the whole things just seems annoyingly deceptive. Avoid.

About a year ago I realised that there were a load of places in Rusholme that I’d never been to, and the link between them was that they were the ones with English names. As all the food on Rusholme except the chicken shops(with which I have always been well acquainted) is of Indian, Pakistani, Middle Eastern or Turkish origin, I was subconsciously put off by the English titles. I guess they do make the places sound less authentic. So I began making my way through them, and I discoevered that usually the title of the business was the only English thing about them. The Village Tandoori, for example, is probably the most authentic Lahore cuisine available in Manchester. Spicy Hut, similarly emanates gorgeous Indian authenticity. Rusholme Chippy was another of these. Why would I buy my kebab from Rusholme Chippy when I could get it from Abduls or Sajaan? Well it turns out in this instance that I was right. It is, of course, not run by English people, but even so, their kebabs are just not as good as those available elsewhere along the curry/kebab mile.

Don’t be fooled by this wolf in sheep clothing. Though claiming to be a chippy it’s actually… ta da a kebab house. Though they do some nice thing with chips, take the chip kebab a monstrous piece of carbage. Legend has it rusholme chippy has been going since the 80s and you get the feeling from looking at it that nothing’s changed. This is by no means a bad thing; rusholme chippy can pull off some awesome grilled and skewered meats in truely gigantic nans fresh from the clay ovens. Can fill your face for under £6, nice.

I was so disappointed when I went in to order some good old fish ‘n’ chips with mushy peas, only to discover that this isn’t a chippy, but rather a very badly named kebab house! bah! Lucky to get two stars!
