As Manchester as it gets. Stellar line ups each week. If you’re not doing WHP there’s only one place to be really. Recent refurb is great. Good move combining the entry bar/ground floor main room with the DJ booth on the opposite side to where it used to be. Has a more grand feel now. The ceiling lights in Spektrum upstairs are great. Gives the room a more transcendental feel/good vibes zone. The queue to the smoking area is just silly. Everyone smokes in that room anyways. May as well open it all up and have an outdoor bar in my opinion. The line ups this season on the weekend are all very similar. Would be nice to have slightly more variety.

World renowned club in the middle of absolutely nowhere in Manchester. Absolutely mental night is guarenteed with the most popular night being a Thursday. The low roofs on the different floors, bucket-drinks and brilliant atmosphere entice people here every week no matter if it is exceedingly overpriced compared to other nightclubs in the city. Definitely worth going at least twice a year.

By far the best club in manchester, even though it has gone down a bit in regards to overall rating. Easily one of the best clubs in the north but has more good nights than amazing ones nowadays. However anytime going to Manchester a visit to Sankeys is warranted, no indie here though haha

Sankeys is a good club but I probably would not call it the number one club in the world(as declared by vote on DJ Mag). I like the lay out of the ground floor the most. Only problem with Sankeys is that it was full of university student.

I have never failed to have a great night here. Drinks are a little on the expensive side, but that is to be expected, since most people are not drinking on the main nights!

I think I am totally missing what everyone is raving about. Quite literally as it seems. I have always found Sanky’s to be, well massively underwhelming, filled with a collection of 17 year olds from periphery colleges, and the wide pupils of those loving everyone a little too much for it to be just the effects of those banging tunes. Maybe it’s one of those places for me that I’ve just gotten over. Yes the sounds are good, the speaker system is pretty damn good, and in retrospect, it’s one of the best I’ve heard, and as a club, it pulls in some big names, and some impressive spinners, with some talented set lists to boot. But, I just cannot take to the place. 10 years ago it was a place where you just went as part and parcel of going out in town, but now with it’s super club status, and surly door men, and super strict funky dress code pre scan before entry, it seems to have lost some of the appeal it had back then.

Sankeys recently got voted the best club in the world and I can see why. It pulls in massive DJ’s from around the world, is nearly always packed and stays open until 6am. Whenever I have been there it has been an absolute rave, literally. Located in a warehouse in that no-mans land between the Norhtern Quarter and Ancoats, Sankeys is a mission to find. It’s kind of like nowhere really knows where it is, unless they have been there before. There are people who like Sankeys(myself) who will go there is somebody big is on, not too often but often enough to know what it is all about. Equally, there are people who LOVE Sankey’s. Who live and breath the place, they are there, every week without fail, eyes the size of the moon, absolutely going mad for it down at the front. These kind of people are the kind of people that would have worshipped the Hacienda but are a few years too late. They are hardcore. These kind of people are the people who voted Sankeys as the best club in the world. Mostly because they can just get mash-up weekly in an environement where it is socially acceptable. Personally, I think Sankey’s is great. It’s got a ridiculously good soundsystem and whenever I have been there it has been packed and the atmopshere has been completely buzzing. If you’re looking for a massive night out in Manchester, Sankey’s is unrivalled as the best place to be.

So those times that you see the loud painted bus doing rounds from fallowfiled to wilmslow to the it destination, with the number ‘69’ flashing on it, it’s the Sankey’s pick up bus! Its noisy, crazy and everything that you need at the start of a night! The club is of course on a far end from most university party places and the pick up bus serves good! As you reach the club, most of it is blurred since alcohol has reached your guts from when the ride has begun. The club is red and garishly gorgeous from inside. The bathroom is probably the tiniest part about the place and the queues are never ending! What makes this place so perpetually popular and why are their tickets always sold out? The Music! The house/electro/pop mix that they showcase and the dj’s that drive this place are more than a riot! The night never ends until 5am and the bus safely takes you to our start point! Its one helluva night at Sankeys and be sure to wear comfortable shoes because believe me, you’ll be dancing away the night!

Sankeys was the one thing I kept getting junk mail through my door about when I was a student. This irritated me greatly and I instantly decided I disliked it. This was a great mistake, as Sankeys is about as essential a Manchester experience as listening to The Smiths or visiting Night and Day. I will tell you right away that it’s not exactly my scene or music, but it’s worth a visit and mine was worthwhile. With its Warehouse Project rival it seems to be upping the game, having been refurbished in 2006. It’s a controversial place, and even paid ticket-holders have been turned away for not looking ‘funky’ enough to grace Beehive Mill. Something of a Manchester institution, but a lot more glam than it used to be, which for some means it’s lost a lot of character. But you should give it a go if only for a tick on your Mancunian checklist, it’s a pretty impressive space with some big name DJs.

The first time I went to Sankeys, I was leaning up against a wall for a while, thinking how great the sound system was. Then I realised the wall was vibrating. Then I realised the wall was in fact a GIANT speaker. Needless to say, this fact pleased me greatly, because if there’s one thing that ruins music, it’s speakers that are rubbish. Of course, gigantic speakers aren’t the only thing Sankey’s has going for it. Being out of the way and charging an average of £12 for advance entry means that unlike the Warehouse Project, it hasn’t become overrun with stupid little pratts who want to go raving. Instead, you’re more than likely to be surrounded by people who are honestly there to enjoy the music, to give respect to the DJ(God is a…) and to have a nice time. The chances of being unceremoniously shoved, spilled on or leched at are slim, because this isn’t that kind of place, really. Of course, the crowd relies on what music’s playing. If you’re into electro and broken beats, you’re likely to think the trance crowd is full of douches. But the trance crowd probably think you’re a pretentious uptight tit-end. So, you know, different strokes. Among other acts, I have seen Boys Noize, Riton, Justice and Mylo here. Though the Justice night was transcendent, electric and mind-blowing, I will always remember the Mylo night as the best. That’s because right on that dancefloor, under the gaze of Mr Mylo himself, the boyf and I shared our first kiss, having been introduced by a mutual friend who the boyf had visited, solely with the intention of going to Sankeys. Thanks, Sankeys. The drinks here are expensive, yes, but to be honest, worth it. Even in my skint days I would view the £3.50 Coronas as necessary collateral damage. You’re in a fantastic club enjoying some of the best live DJs of the moment, so suck it up and dig a little deeper in your pocket. Oh, there’s a Disco Bus. That’s right, a double decker bus that will pick you up from Fallowfield or the Union, and take you directly to Sankeys. FORFREE. I love this club. I will always love Sankeys, because it is truly Manchester’s premier rave space. Oh, and if you’re at Sankeys and people keep coming up to you asking if you’ve got pills they can buy, don’t be offended. You don’t look like a drug dealer, you just look like you’re having a great time. Of course you’re having a great time… you’re at Sankeys!

If you are looking for a first class modern clubbing experience, then you will be hard pressed to find anything of the like in Manchester, frankly all other imitators pale into insignificance where Sankeys is concerned. Between me & thee, I grew up in this club starting as far back as Golden in 1996!!?(crikey, i have formulated somewhat of a biased opinion here in the last 13 years) … yes it has changed, and thankfully moved on with the times! which is why we are still lucky enough to be graced with this treasured home of great dance music, where on any chosen night you will still be guaranteed to gain that luvdup experience, just in its latest incarnation! Its all good. Don’t attend with an attitude, you may just have a good night being one with the throng of madness and beat induced pleasure that ensues… just let yourself go and enjoy a beautifully conceived visual dream of perfection that welcomes some of the most talented DJ’s of our times. Music truly is the answer… enjoy…

Manchester’s answer, alongside the Warehouse Project, to amazing dance music line ups at Fabric and Matter in London, Sankey’s is like in a little world of its own. Last time we went here we decided to go the whole hog and wear raving neon gear. Looked a little out of place but we still had fun. Come here for the music — to see people like Riton DJ and Bugged Out nights. It is a little crazy, and its true that depending on who I’m with there is a touch of unease about some of the clubbers in here. But sometimes you don’t just want a safe night where you dance to RnB and some loser in his late twenties tries to buy you drinks. Sometimes you want to look a bit different, shout at your friends because you can’t hear each other. in short have a large one. Amazingly, Sankeys also had a sunbathing area in their car park over summer. I salute you.

When will ‘super clubs’ learn that it’s got nothing to do with how many expensive news features you cram in and everything to do with the atmosphere you create. Allowing idiots in who spoil it for everyone and employing bouncers who have a hate hate relationship with the world is not a way to make nice people come back. Whilst going to a club is supposed to fill you with excitement and one or two butterflies, it is isn’t supposed to fill you with dread and nerves. Clubbing shouldn’t become something akin to the thrill seeking of bungee jumping or parachuting– whereby it becomes a rush to go and see if you make it out alive. The problems I’ve mentioned are easily sorted and ones that I really hope Sankeys deals with soon as it IS one of the world’s best clubs and a place I’d like to be able to go to without bracing myself on entry.

Sankeys is a bit of an institution in Manchester. I was 17 the first time I visited Sankeys, having an older brother who was a regular at clubs up and down the country I was itching to reach legal drinking age(ok so I didn’t quite manage to wait until the legal age) and chancing my arm one Friday when Alistair Whitehead was playing I got in and had an amazing night. I kept going back almost weekly for the following couple of years, until it was closed down following problems with gangs. I was back when it reopened and enjoyed another few years of world class DJ sets in this industrial feel club. This raw feel really complimented the types of DJ’s and acts that appeared at Sankeys over the years; Sasha, Steve Lawler, Danny Tenaglia, X-Press 2, Groove Armada, Plump DJ’s.the list goes on, and on and on. There was a real unpretentious vibe, this hot and sweaty club didn’t lend itself to the glamour puss look of Miss Moneypenneys and the like. Sankeys closed, again, in 1996 for a refurb. I attended the much anticipated opening night and was sadly disappointed. The club had been given a more glam makeover and I felt it had lost the spirit of Sankeys. The lineups also lacked what Sankeys was essentially about but luckily the Warehouse Project opened at around the same time(a few of the old Sankeys team had left to set it up) and I found myself somewhere new to get excited about, albeit a temporary one. I have steered clear of Sankeys since 2006, until now. I was there for NYE. It was a good but not great but NYE is often a let down. There was a few instances where groups of young lads got a little over excited and thought it was acceptable to follow us around pestering us but other than that it was a friendly, well up for it crowd. The bar prices are as you would expect at any mainstream club, and the entry much the same. Looking at the lineup over the next couple of months they appear to have recaptured some of the magic so I may be tempted to go back, at least until the Warehouse Project re opens.

Im not really into my dance music but i have been here when there has been an alternative night or DJ sets from babyshambles/Hot Chip etc and it is a good venue. Its fairly pricey on the door and the bar prices dont really leave anything to be desired but its a good place to go for a ‘big night out’!

AMAZING! Sankeys is one of the things I miss most about living in Manchester. A proper dance club, for the serious music lovers — one of the best atmospheres of any club I’ve ever been in in the UK. Granted, it’s in the middle of flamin’ nowhere, in an old industrial estate — definitely not the sort of place you want to be walking around on your own at night — but if you’re in a big group it’s fine. Wear comfy shoes cos you’ll be dancing constantly all night. I always found the regulars friendly, and never saw any trouble — people are genuinely just up for a good time. Get tickets early, and go and see one of the big name acts they regularly have on — memorable ones for me included Audiobullys and Groove Armada, both amazing. You won’t regret it!

Sankeys soap is a world famous clubbing venue which has seen the likes of jazzy jeff, groover armada, chemical brothers, roger sanchez etc. These kind of artists came pretty much every year. With sell out nights, disappointed queues of people being turned away and huge international DJ’s. It’s a unique brand that needs no introduction. Even people who have never been to the place know what it’s all about. This place is the only one of kind in manchester, it pulls in the big boys, has a loyal following and can easily sell out its 800 capacity crowd so therefore be sure to book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

Sankeys without doubt is one of Manchester’s finest dance clubs. Has a long and established history and attracts big crowds. Has hosted some of the finest DJ’s playing house and dance. Open through out the weekend. Nights often go into the early hours. Tibal sessions on a Friday is my preferred night but both Friday and Saturday nights are very popular. The club has recently undergone a massive refurbishment and now offers three different rooms of music. Sometimes there are large ques on entry, so to avoid disappointment book tickets online. Sankeys also offers a Discobus to get to the Venue from some areas. Rarely ever see any trouble, People always seem like they are up for a good time!

Sankeys has been in Manchester for quite some time and some might say it’s Manchester’s number one nightclub. Sankeys is without a doubt a dance club with plays dance and trance all night long, quite often played by their own in-house DJ’s. The club itself holds loads of people and it has a massive dance floor that is always crammed full of people having a wicked night. Sankeys offers quite a lot of nights but my favourite is Tribal Sessions, if you get there on the right night then you might get to see some big names DJ. Word of warning, Sankeys is ticketed most nights now make sure you get your tickets before hand, you can check the website for details. Some nights they sell out so i always get them in advance The club has been refurbished in recent years so its looking a lot better than it did years ago. The club looks really cool at the moment. Definitely worth a night out if you like it fast paced
