Shake That!

‘Shake That’ is a little Milkshake shop adjacent to Jabez Clegg (pub). It has pretty much every British chocolate bar that you can dream of, which they then mix with milk and ice cream. And what’s the result? Possibly some of the best milkshakes in Manchester!
I had a Mars milkshake, which was very yummy, and I also tried the Toffee Crisp and Ferrero Rocher flavours. All three were gorgeous! They also had other flavours such as After Eight, curly wurly, malteasters, double decker, milkybar, etc.
There is also a collection of sweets which can be made into milkshake and also some smoothies. I will definitely be going back to try some more flavours. They are also very good value — I had a regular size which was £2.50.
Shake That also do pizzas, and if you order one between 5 and 10pm on a weekday you can get a 12 inch pizza for £3! There is a range of topping options such as ham&mushroom, ham&pineapple, pepperoni and a couple of others. The pizzas were very good, sort-​of a standard take-​away pizza kind of taste (it’s hard to judge pizzas where there’s domino’s around!) and great value for the price.
We ordered in the shop and sat-​in (they have a bar running along the wall) and they also have free wi-​fi. Shake That also deliver, and if you’re in Jabez Clegg you can get it delivered to your table!!!
Amazing milkshakes, great pizzas, friendly staff, excellent value (pizza and a milkshake for £5.50? Yes please!). Recommended!

Good for cheap food, socials and gigs, Jabez Clegg is the perfect bar to have next to uni if you’re a student, and is a great place for a drink before a gig if you’re going to see something at the Academy.
Me and my friends used to come here about once a week when we were studying to get a cheap lunch to warm us up in those bitter winder months. Jabez serve some pretty decent and really cheap pub food. Particular favourites of mine include the veggie burgers or the chili.
The bar is well stocked with a good selection of draughts, lagers and ciders as well as some alright spirits (the rum selection is a little to be desired). There are pool tables, fruit machines and a large open fire to laze in front of. Upstairs is a large hall which can be rented for socials (we used it a lot as a rehearsal space) and also hosts some great regular nights. The best of these nights has to be the monthly ceilidh which is great fun and is always rammed. There is a bar upstairs and the place is perfect for big parties.

I like the concept of Shake That! Apart from I have an unfavourable urge to go «alll on the floor» or whatever Akon cringely mutters.
So Akon aside, Shake that is a milkshake place, a chocaholic and sweet tooth’s christmas all year round. The range of the milkshakes on offer is vast. As you walk in, you see all the different types of chocolate bars you can name shelved along the back wall. So they’re going to crush one of them into liquid form. Wow.
My friend went for a toffee crisp one and at £2.50 she thought it wasn’t quite worth it. For those with less of a sweet tooth, I went for a pineapple, mango and papaya smoothie. Very refreshing but very icy and my hand soon became numb after five minutes of holding the damn thing.
The place itself is reminiscent of an American diner, with the black and white chequered floor and the shiny plastic red seats. There is even a little outdoor table too. Being across from the Union and part of Jabez, Shake That has become a student’s dream.

At the moment Shake That! is without doubt my favourite business in Manchester bar none. Its recently opened as a subsidiary business of the average pub Jabez Clegg, and it occupies the building next door.
It is first and foremost a milkshake shop. However, it specializes in chocolate milkshakes. Not the normal chocolate flavour shakes but shakes made from your favourite chocolate bars. I’m not exaggerating when I say there is literally no chocolate bar that they do not convert into a milkshake. They have everything from Oreo to Malteaser to Walnut Whip and Mars Delight. They even have Cadbury’s Roses and Fry’s Peppermint Cream!
All these are also available as bars and are kept on shelves behind the counter that would make any child cry with joy. They also have cereal shakes such as Coco Pops and Nesquick!
For those seeking a more healthy option they have loads of smoothies as well.
They even have ones made with sweeties such as millions and cola bottles. And toppings such as popping candy and buttons and smashed oreo and flakes, so adorn your gorgeous shake with even more happiness.
Shakes are £2.50 or £3 for a large, and you can add 60p to throw in a second flavour. They also do dairy free ones for an extra 50p.
The place is red and white like a classic American milkshake bar from the movies. This place is literally a joke!

Milkshake bars are popping up across the country in student areas. I was at my mates in Sheffield the other day when I was treated to visiting one of old skool spots that had been doing it for years. Then when I got home to Manchester’s a few days later I found out our city had been blessed with one too. Shake it will do anything in a milkshake.
You stand in front of the counter and stare at the astronomical proportions of sweets and chocolates, after much deliberation (this can literally be 10 minutes) you decide on having x, y and z in your shake (this could be oreos, twix and yorkie, anything!) then you decipher whether you want it with skimmed milk, with ice cream, with frozen yoghurt, sauce, smarties, wafers, topped in caramel. It just goes on and on and on and on. For this reason you may need to plan your visit and cancel any activities you had in mind for after.
Once the long hard think is over, they put it all in a blender whiz it down to pure liquid heaven and serve it you. Then you drink it in 5 seconds flat. I can’t get enough of this milky opium.
