Smithfield’s market is one of Manchester’s oldest and best kept secrets. So, old in fact I used to come here as a kid. Years before adulthood and insomnia(amongst other activities) took hold, Saturday nights were an early night affair for me if a visit to Smithfield’s market was on the sunday breakfast menu. A magical place where you could pick up bargain price video games and even haggle with the stall owner, I loved it. In a world of corporate chains and superstores the sight of Independent vendors selling via sing along pitches is/was one to behold, for me at least. From fresh meat to sofas, the product range here really is as diverse as you can find in any superstore around. The demonstrations alone for the various products are a spectacle warranting a visit. So whether you need wallpaper for a redecoration, a new tv for the kitchen, fresh vegetables for a come dine with me dinner party scenario or a winter jacket and some boots, this really is a place for you. A place that might not be the most glamorous in the world but if you don’t mind the morning chill on a sunday, the money you save will take care of the glamour in the long run. How does the saying go? Save the pennies at Smithfield’s and the pounds will look after themselves!
