I was the licencee here in 1971 just as Whitbread had bought out Chesters. I was told by the brewery that the pub would be knocked down inside a year for road widening and nearly forty years on it is still going strong, and won Camra pub of the year in 2006, Iwas only there for seven months before being moved to a larger pub but i have lots of happy memories of the time i was there and the great set of friendly people i met long may the pub survive in these hard times for the licence trade.
