Located next door to The City Arms, and close to St Peter’s square, this is another small pleasant traditional type city centre pub which compliments it’s neighbour really well. Smartly decorated inside, on two levels, this pub also has a cosy relaxed atmosphere. There is Tv available in the Vine, but it is terrestrial only, so this is not a pub for watching football in! Real Ale and food both available in the Vine.

Never knew this little-gem-of-a place existed until an ex-boyfriend took me here on a date a few years ago — and I’ve been drinking here ever since. Having been out of the country a fair bit recently, I’d heard about them opening the new Malt and Ale cellar and I was really keen to check it out. Like the majority of my nights out in old men’s boozers, what always starts as one so-effortlessly turns into a fifty-quid night. Expect to lose a few hours of your life in The Vine and become best buddies with the friendly punters. It’s a great place to meet for lunch or after work. It’s always busy and much better than the soulless bars in the surrounding area. Also a heads up for Unilocalers. Check in here and they give you a treat! :-)

Interesting pub upstairs traditional downstairs trendy real ale cellar bar. They need a better selection of beers though.

Located at the side of The City Arms, The Vine Inn is of a similar nature in that it is in the old pub model. A larger pub than the City Arms and split over three levels, the Vine has a couple of cask ales on top, but I’d say that it is more centered around food than its counterpart next door. The pub had a nice atmosphere, with a good selection of music on the jukebox. The staff were also friendly and helpful.

I’m a city boy through and through. My arguement is that we invented them because we realised the countryside was shit and therefore I’ve never had any real urge to go there. But living amongst the hustle and bustle can sometimes catch up with you and you need to escape. Proving that I don’t need the countryside whatsoever is the Vine Inn. A country pub in the middle of town, four pints in and it wills you on to give it a good old«OOHARR!!” — which you can do without the risk of offending actual country folk. OOHARR!

A small and really friendly traditional pub located in the city centre– now that’s what I like to hear! This place may not look pretty from outside with its strange tiled green walls but itsa little gem inside. The place describes itself as a country pub in the city. Great dark wood interior and a real cosy feel, this is a place to kick back and put the world to rights. Oh and the food is not bad either — lunch menu comes in between 5 and 7 pounds :)
