My pal and I were both utterly taken with Yuzu. And, unlike some other reviewers, we didn’t take issue with the service. But then there were only two of us and it was very quiet on a Saturday afternoon. The starters arrived after the mains, which was a little disarming but, hey, better late than never. Agadashi tofu wasn’t the best I’ve had, but was more then edible. My mate’s prawn gyoza starter on the other hand — «I could’ve eaten a whole plate of those, mmmm». My salmon teriyaki dish was accompanied by pickled cucumber and miso soup, all of which I duly wolfed down. My friend’s veggie udon dish was huge, and full of crunchy veg — a great choice for the famished. Perhaps this is a better lunch option rather than dinner due to somewhat restricted space. Be aware, it closes at 2.30 until the evening shift, so don’t arrive too late. Overall, this is a lovely, understated restaurant quietly residing among the loud shopfronts of Chinatown.

Great Japanese food, very tasty! Cute interior set-up, friendly and competent staff. Servings were a bit on the smallish side for my taste, I guess you’d have more than one dish in a place like this.

Well, the setting is very nice, at least. Could be that my lacklustre experience with the food was due to what I ordered(tempura udon) — as in, it’s not their speciality. Two measly prawns, batter had an overly oily and bitter aftertaste, no thin dipping sauce? The veg tempura was nice, the udon itself okay. Don’t think I will be returning, sorry.

Very pretty and authentic looking place in Manchester serving a mixture of Japanese food. I went for the sashimi and the miso soup with friends ordering a selection of the rice and noodle dishes on offer. The service was pretty slow which can be slightly excused due to the size of our group but some of the dishes on the small menu were also not available causing some people in our group to have to go for other things. My sashimi was really fresh and my miso was also excellent. It’s a real shame three was a couple of issues on this visit but i would still 100% come back here again.

So the rest of my table was not a fan of Yuzu, but I actually liked it. Well, the food that is. I got the sashimi, which was a nice big bowl of rice with some thinly cut fish and noodles under it. And I also got the shrimp and veggie tempura, which was lightly battered and quite tasty. However, as others have pointed out, the service here needs work. We were shoved into a corner booth, despite there being a lot of us. And the waitress was quick and rude when taking orders. It also took forever(seriously, way too long) for our food to come out. They’re also one tiny bathroom for the entire restaurant, which feels a little strange. So come here for the food and then get out. That’s the best tip I can give.

This week we’ve been traveling around Manchester trying food from all parts of the globe, not really, but it feels like it — Indian last night, hipster for breakfast(I know that’s not a place) and Japanese for lunch today. I really hate to say it but I felt quite underwhelmed by Yuzu and here’s why; First up, when we entered we were squeezed in the corner and despite there being 10 of us they didn’t allow us to occupy the vacant wooden table next to ours(it remained free the whole time we were there). Secondly we had to wait a long time to get food — the food was definitely worth the wait — but we were all getting a bit tetchy by the time it came. Otherwise I found Yuzo good — the food was as authentic as you can get. I actually went for 2 appetizers rather than mains as I had a big breakfast. I chose the dumplings which were incredible, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. I’m going to have to give Yuzu 3 stars — If you’re looking for a great example of tasty Japanese food head here, but if you’re on your lunch break and need your food pronto you might want to give it a miss!

My flatmate and I went there ! It’s was so DELICIOUS ! We didn’t make an appointment(I advice you to do one), we have waited 1 hour but after that the food was so fresh and excellent ! The waitress was kind and helpful ! I totally recommend at 100% this restaurant at the heart of Chinatown !

We had a serious craving for Japanese food this week, so naturally I jumped on Unilocal to find out where was best and I can happily say that I wasn’t disappointed with the great reviews this place gets. Tiny it might be, but it’s charm appeal is huge. Nestled in Chinatown, you’d be forgiven for walking past Yuzu in favour of some of the flashier establishments. We decided to share some edamame and the gyoza. We both agreed that the gyoza were the best we’ve ever tasted! For mains we opted for the tuna sashimi and the teriyaki salmon, both served with rice, miso soup and seasoned okra. The tuna and the salmon were both delicious, even the rice was fantastic. Throw in some tasty plum wine and it was a perfect meal for me. Needless to say I’ll be heading back here next time I have a craving for Japanese food.

First things first: this place is small! Book a table if there are a few of you and/or you don’t want to wait. I went here with Oonagh C and Natalie W and we were put on a slightly poky corner table. It wasn’t hugely uncomfortable however. To start we shared chicken kara-age, gyoza, and vegetable tempura. Gyoza were great. I was a bit underwhelmed by the chicken but then I often am with chicken. I ordered the salmon sashimi set, which includes salmon, Japanese rice, and miso soup. The salmon was glorious and I even really enjoyed the rice, which I don’t always. It’s been a while now since my last visit and I’m ready to go again!

The food is pretty good and the waiters are nice but there’s just so few of them. Yuzu is a small little place at the edge of china town with great interior design and authentic food but again way too little and too small. If you’re a uni student who is not used to London prices(lol) or just something more pricey than your usual Manchester lunch or dinner than I would advise you to go somewhere else. Other than that it was accommodating and the food was fat enough. I like it to say the least but not enough to be a regular

This place just made me a little sad. It’s run by authentic Japanese staff and food was similar to what you would see at a nice Japanese establishment but overall, I was very underwhelmed. First, the hours of operation are a bit sporadic(as in, ya never know if they’ll be open or not…). Service was edging towards a glacial pace. But the interior was nice. I had the don bowl which was quite pricy given the amount and quality of food. It was basically a large amount of rice topped with some little sashimi and a side of soup. My friend was clever and had the tempura set with noodles which was much tastier and salvaged this review to a solid 3 stars! Overall, I expected much more given what previous friends have said about the food. Who knows, maybe the next time I go, I’ll be pleasantly surprised…

A previous reviewer mentioned that coming from California that he may well have been spoiled by the Golden State. I too have to concur. Japanese food in Japan and California is significantly better in depth, flavor and authenticity. That said there is nothing particularly wrong with Yuzu. It just isn’t anything special.

After reading the reviews and searching for the best sushi place in Manchester, I was super excited to be visiting Yuzu. I’m not sure whether I was building up my expectations too high, but I can only say that everything was very average. Nothing blew my socks off, and although there was nothing wrong, it just wasn’t great. We had a selection of sashimi, miso soup, some tempura dishes and udon noodles. All cooked well and presented nicely, but the flavours were quite underwhelming and the bill was nearly £50 with 2 soft drinks. I personally think there are tons of places that do better sushi at better value in Manchester, because of this I won’t be back. Sorry Yuzu, Yu win some Yu lose some.

I really enjoyed this Japanese — when Jonny Q says it’s in his top 3, you know you have to visit. We popped in for a meal on a Saturday night and were grateful to get a table — there was people waiting with us right when it opened, and within minutes the place was full. It’s pretty small and there’s some strange seating options, but we were there for the food. I got the Kaisen don(salmon, tuna, prawn & scallop sashimi) which was just a lovely selection of lush sashimi. The pieces were beautifully sliced and the presentation was amazing — almost too pretty to eat but that’s never stopped me yet. I also got a portion of agedashi tofu as I was feeling a little tired and that was just as delicious — lightly but perfectly fried. I really liked Yuzu. The prices were reasonable, the staff were friendly and the place was cosy. I would definitely head back again and I’d definitely recommend making a booking if you can’t get there right on opening time.

Wow, I’m shocked at the high ratings for this place — I feel bad giving them 2 stars after just one visit, and maybe it’s a cultural thing, maybe my expectations are quite high being from California, maybe I caught them on an off night… bottom line is I was not impressed, really surprisingly disappointing given the many great reviews from others. Maybe I am a spoiled sushi snob after frequenting places like Sugarfish in LA. We got there very close to closing time, and I guess they were running out of fish, but they sat us down anyway… I wish they would have just turned us away or warned us! I didn’t even get to sample their sushi because they didn’t have anything I liked — they were pretty much down to salmon and shrimp, so I ended-up just getting a cooked piece of salmon, which was OK — I’d give them 3 stars based on that and their Miso soup, but my boss took a chance on some Sashimi and ended-up getting sick! We should have known better and walked away when they brought out these tiny little slivers of shrimp that looked like yesterday’s leftovers. Pretty good selection of Saki, but no option for serving it chilled, what’s up with that? Oh, and geting some shaved ginger was a mission — we got weird looks just for asking, is ginger an American thing or something?

Small, but perfectly formed, Yuzu is a cracking wee Japanese restaurant, which is well worth a visit. Admittedly, I didn’t eat huge amount here as I was feeling pretty ill when I was here(nothing to do with them, honest!), so I only had a couple of things of the menu. In need of a pick-up I went for the Miso Soup; not normally something I would go for, but this was as good a soup as I’ve had. I also had the chicken katsu starter, which was again really nice. If I was going for a full meal this would have been a decent amount to eat, and made me wish I was fit enough to eat more! It’s not the biggest of spaces though, and it seems like a place that you would have to book if you really wanted to go to. Depending on where you sit you could be right next to, or really close to other diners, so I’d maybe not go there if you want something romantic.

I am a fan. We arrived for opening although they were still really getting the place ready and we needed to wait a while before being served. Drinks ordered we ended up sharing plates as they arrived at our table, and I found to food good, although not quite five stars worth of great. I certainly would like to try coming here in an evening to see how things change. The staff were super and fast, we were happy to natter while things arrived. I would recommend coming here although I do think some of the more generic conveyor belt places in Manchester offer a better value for money.

Yuzu is just amazing, in fact it is possibly in my top 3(maybe top 1) Manchester places to eat(and chill out) — it really is just that great! I often go for lunch if I feel like I’ve been eating junk for a while and their special tempura bowls with rice, pickled veges and miso for £8 really puts a smile on your face every time. I do often treat myself to a nice lil portion of gyoza as well which are simply divine. They don’t do sushi here which isn’t an issue as it means you can get the full range of other Japanese delights — I’ve tried their chicken katsu and prawn tempura as well, in fact I don’t think there’s anything I’ve ever eaten here that I don’t like. Special shout out should go to the ambience, vibe and décor — lovely surroundings with relaxing jazz played in the background. The moment Unilocal brings out a 6th star I’m upgrading my review!

Wow, the food here is stunning. The presentation is an art form, the staff a delight and the venue is relaxing and quiet. Went for the first time for dinner with a friend, we got there for the opening time of 5:30pm, which was a good job as the restaurant filled up pretty quickly. We started with Kirin Ichiban beers and edamame, lovely crisp, fresh taste to the beer and the edamame were perfectly cooked with just a little sea salt. I ordered the tuna sashmi set, and my friend got the salmon. We ended up sharing the fish and both were melt in the mouth. The wasabi has a great flavour and that was hands down the best miso soup I’ve ever had. The little tiny pickled okra were super delicious and the rice was just right. We also shared a portion of vegetable tempura, super light and very crisp with no hint of greasiness and a tasty dipping sauce too. The venue is quite small, but that’s more of a benefit than a hindrance. Our food didn’t take very long at all and it was easy to get another round of drinks or the bill. Will definitely be visiting again, the special of oyster katsu looked amazing!
