One tip for the waiter: leave the attitude at home! When we walked into the store, we were greeted by an extremely rude waitress. She asked us what we wanted, and we replied ice cream. When we went to the gelato section, she rudely told us that we could only try one flavor and tried to hurry us to buy and leave. We decided to sit down to enjoy our ice cream, and when my friend pulled out his water bottle, the waitress came by and said «IN-​HOUSE DRINK ONLY!» I cannot emphasize enough what a bad experience we had here especially with the services. They might have a decent selection of tasty ice cream, but I will not come back again until the waitress adjusts her attitude completely!

I went to Benets every morning for coffee during the first half of the school year. I found the owner and staff to be quite pleasant and personable. The coffee was GREAT but a little bit pricey for a student (hence I started making it myself).
I think that other reviews may have forgotten how hectic Cambridge can be during the summer tourist season and Benets is right across the street from Kings College making it a tourist hot spot. I think anyone who has worked in the service industry will understand what a nightmare that can be.
Enjoy your excellent coffee at Benets but understand that the staff are probably pretty stressed during the summers.

The ice cream here is fine (though nothing special), but the owner is horrifically rude to customers. My friend and I had ice cream here today, and it was not very busy so we stayed for a little while after we finished (30 mins or so) just to chat. The owner came over, asked us if we were ordering anything else, and then told us that if we were not, we should leave. There were several open tables, so we obviously weren’t preventing other customers from sitting down. My friend told him that she felt he was being rude and he said he didn’t care. He became very aggressive and started shouting at us while being way too physically close for comfort. It was terrible and a total shock. We were worried that it might have been motivated by racial or nationality biases, as we are not English. There is other (and better) ice cream in Cambridge, so we won’t miss going there.

We’ve only tried the ice cream, but it’s become a must visit location every time we make it to Cambridge.
