The Purple Onion

I went to the Purple Onion for a Christmas Lunch as part of a block-​booking of around 20 people. Perhaps it was because it was a busy time of year, or maybe it was because there were so many of us, but the service was quite slow and we had quite a wait between courses. When the food came, it was hot but unfortunately that is about the only good thing I can say about it. I ordered Mushroom Stroganoff, which is my favourite dish. Unfortunately this is THE worst Mushroom Stroganoff I have ever tasted it was extremely ‘vinegary’ (I don’t even think Mushroom Stroganoff is supposed to contain vinegar?!). I could not finish it as the taste was so strong. The starter and desert were ok but I’ve definitely tasted better elsewhere. Unfortunately I would not return to the Purple Onion and could not recommend it.

I’ve only ever eaten once at the pruple onion but from what i remeber it was brilliant. They have lots of choice with a huge menu and also a specials board. I was a vegetarian and i had a cheese tartlet which is better than the normal veggie burger or lasagne. I think it was quite expensive though but the food was yummy

The Purple Onion restaurant is located on Corporation Road. The restaurant holds about 70 – 80 people I imagine and has a very chilled out and relaxed vibe to it. The tables themselves are candle lit and very romantic, but this is also the ideal location for catching up with friends and just having a laugh. The food in this place is amazing, they offer a wide variety of food and have a daily specials board with some great offers. The last time I went we book in advance because we had a part of eight, we were seated straight away and drinks followed pretty rapidly, it was extremely busy as it was a Friday night and we had to wait a little while for our food but we were in not rush and were not made to feel rushed by the staff. This is a great location is you want to have a nice meal before a night round Middlesbrough
