When I hear the name«Middleton Café», it tells me that this café is one for the people of Middleton, one with great food, and a central hub in both social and food in the area, but I hate to be rude, what we got was this. The Middleton Café is located in Middleton Gardens, just opposite Amigo’s and next to Knights News. The café its-self doesn’t have the nicest of decors, with it seeming quite basic, despite a mirror going around the room and some framed photographs, and most of this is down to the flooring and the basic tables, but I can’t mark them down too much because of this, as honestly getting tables wouldn’t be a café’s priority, and instead it would be to source down good food, but it seems they can’t even do that. The price of my meal was quite cheap, and a good 2 — 3 pounds less than what I’d pay elsewhere in Middleton, but still the food quality worsened as a result, and tasted not very nice, and simply cheap. I ordered 2 fried eggs with beans, I mentioned to my server about being gluten free, but she didn’t seem to understand it, and basically more or less seemed to dis-regard it, hence I felt a little worried about eating here. When my food finally arrived, they was no mention of measures operated to avoid cross-contamination. The plate was quite unusual, but is basically just what you would expect from a café in a small town like Middleton. My eggs were okay, with it seeming they had merged into one but with 2 yokes, one of them was cooked to a good standard, although one of the yokes was slightly undercooked. The eggs were okay, however I was put off them as they seemed to have an unusual taste to them, especially around the yoke, which I couldn’t pick up on. I worried that these eggs could have been in contact with gluten, or simply just be very poor quality, cheap eggs or even past its expiration or best before date. The beans were not much better, and were a little hard and simply didn’t taste to a good standard, and I do think they could have cut costs here too. Eggs and beans is not a complex order, and for The Middleton Café, it is like they are cooking a goats cheese and chicken risotto with a hint of cheese from the moon, an impossible dish. It was very disappointing and one thing to look at in the future, is dramatically improving the quality of ingredients used, even if it means some changes to the décor, and making it a nicer place in general, and slightly more modern, to stand out more in Middleton Gardens, as with the sign, it just looks like an old fashioned, not very nice café, and that first impression sums it up here sadly!
