The phrase ‘a fuss about nothing’ has rarely been as apt as it is when describing the cafuffle that arose when this Asda moved from Brandon Parade to Watson Street. The site was bigger, so the medium sized Asda that used to be on the Parade moved into bigger, shinier, brand spanking new premises, and now features a George Clothing, large café and loads more aisles than it did before. However, you would think they moved it to the top of Ben Nevis, the way the locals roared about it. It is literally a five minute saunter away from the old one, ten minutes if you’re on the slow, zimmer frame side of things. But it didn’t stop folk being outraged that it had been moved out of the town centre, even though the ‘town’ is the size of a fifty pence piece. The uproar has dulled a bit now, and when the mist cleared, people could see that it was actually a welcome change to the old, grubby unit. It is massive, and the George section upstairs is actually pretty good, especially for undies and kiddies clothes. The café leaves a lot to be desired though, it’s not the cleanest and the food is probably Smartprice stuff. Not nice. A good supermarket, which is 24 hours. Makes an interesting pit stop after a night out pubbing in Motherwell. Pot noodle and cheese? Yes please.

A 24 hour Asda in Motherwell if you’re ever over this way at the Football perhaps. It’s pretty big inside, with a decent sized upstairs with George clothing and a café that closes around 6pm. There’s a good home section with a photo centre and those wee self-service photo machines you get in Boots. It’s well stocked, clean and tidy, and has self-service checkouts as well as a good 20 checkouts. The car park is a bit of a nightmare, with really narrow parking spaces. Hmph. It’s a good Asda nonetheless and one that always turns up a bargain of some sort.

This is a large store but it has a small and poorly spaced car park. There are a few cash machines located away from the entrance which is a bit annoying as you have to walk away from the door and then come back. The store is on two levels and the upper level has a café and some clothes for women, men and children the range can be limited though. The usual items are sold in this asda from fresh to frozen food. There range of smart price food is a hit or a miss! It can take a while to get out of the car park as the roundabout seems to close and the cars come into the car park quite fast. If it had a better car park that was safer it would have rated better.

Situated in its own grounds, Asda Motherwell is very much a predictable Asda store. Customer Service is ok but there only ever seems to be one person on no matter how big the queue is. Café shuts early around 6pm considering it’s a 24 hour store. Discounts in Motherwell Asda can be very different from Hamilton which can be disconcerting when you’ve travelled to the Motherwell store if Hamilton has run out or hasn’t got enough of what you need. Some of the prices on the cheaper products seem to have gone up in the last couple of weeks. The spaces in the car park are too close to each other and regularly I hear of cars being hit by others trying to get into the space next to them. Also there don’t seem to be enough parking spaces.
