I’ve walked on this scenic canal many times with my husband and dog. As you’d expect, it’s a long flat path adjacent to the canal, with plenty to see along the way. It runs for miles, and it’s easy to get onto at Neath, by B&Q, Tonna and Resolven. I’m sure you can get on at Glynneath as well, but I’ve never made it that far! You do see a good bit of the run down areas of Neath — and the back of people’s houses, but there’s also some great scenery along the way as well. If you’re lucky and observant, you may be able to spot some wild life — as well as the odd dog(not talking about mine!). It’s not a place I would walk on my own. It’s very quiet, and I have passed some strange people now and again, and I was glad that I was with my husband on those occasions!

A great place to walk! Start at the steps beside B&Q and walk into the countryside along the tow path between the Neath Canal and the River Neath. We walk here often and there’s always something new to see or hear: lots of birds — I have seen kingfishers and herons, not to mention swans and ducks and millions of tadpoles! There are a few benches here and there to take a rest and you’ll see a few joggers or walkers who will say hello, not that it’s ever busy. You can even take a short boat trip occasionally, although usually there are no boats on the canal as they haven’t finished opening the north-eastern end at Tonna yet.
