This is no longer a pub but a very fancy restaurant. I popped in for a drink and although not impossible it was not very easy as the bar is minute. Good Ale though but shan’t be back unless i want to eat shame as over the years i have frequented the place many times.

We came here after work and it wasn’t open yet :(We were glad we waited though as it was a great place — friendly and attentive staff, a good bar and cosy, eclectic décor. The menu is packed with mouthwatering dishes and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful, sharing their recommendations. We had a lovely evening and the food was delicious although the portions were a bit intimidating. Definitely will be getting a return visit!

A(somewhat) hidden gem just outside Newbury. Found the Halfway Inn having been staying away for work, thought we’d give it a shot based on some online reviews, I’m so glad we did. The décor is really nicely done and has a classy but cosy feel to it. The staff are very welcoming and instantly make you feel at home. We chose to sit outside on our visit as the sun was out and the decked outside area has some lovely upmarket furniture which was very comfortable to eat on. The food has to be tried to be believed, so many amazing flavours and textures on one plate — I’ll never see chicken the same way again! If the rhubarb cake with custard is on the dessert menu it’s a definite must try and one of the best desserts I think I’ve ever had. I was under the illusion that for a two course course meal for two and drinks on top it would be fairly expensive but was pleasantly surprised when the bill was only a smidge over £50!

I rarely stay out this far but when I do, I make sure to eat at the Halfway Inn. I recently learned that this place is called Halfway because it’s literally halfway from London to Bath. Who knew? Anyways, I had dinner here recently the night after I took a local Phaal curry challenge. Without going into details, that shit is hot.(and yes, I mean that in BOTH senses of the word) Much to my chagrin, Halfway was less spicy. In a manner reminiscent of my home in San Francisco, Halfway serves up local & sustainable fare with a seasonal variety depending on what’s fresh from their suppliers. The staff is super friendly, the ambience is casually cool, and the food is delicious. Now if I can just get everyone in the UK to stop making fun of me for not having chip & pin on my credit cards.
