Another pub on Pink Lane very close to Newcastle Central railway station and opposite The Town Wall. Atmospheric city centre pub, with real ales available. A great place to meet your mates for a couple of pints. Very popular pub and tends to get rather busy, especially on match days when a lot of Toon army fans meet up here pre-match! However, well worth adding to your pub-crawl.

Ah, the Forth — I just say the word and my mouth starts watering again. Luckily there are still bars remaining in Newcastle which haven’t decided that they have to have micro breweries inside or masquerade as a German bar to look cool! The Forth hasn’t really changed much over the years and that’s just the way it should be. My favourite day to go is Sunday. obviously for the Sunday lunch but this week I decided to try something different. the bacon jam burger! Mmmmmmmmmmm! Lush! I didn’t have a dessert but managed to eat most of everyone else’s! Cheeky me! There were 12 of us but we all managed to order quickly and the food all arrived at the same time pretty much. Nice staff too! Let’s just hope it doesn’t try to follow the so called ‘cool’ crowd and change what it does. Why fix what ain’t broken?!

Atmosphere — great! I went on a Sunday night around 6pm. 1 person, sat at the bar, no issues. It was busy but not overwhelmingly full. Has a nice gastropub feel. Main — once we got it sorted, delicious. I tried to order the veggie roast, but they were out. This may just be me not knowing how these things work, but I was surprised they would be out of something at 6pm. Are roasts a lunch thing? Maybe this is just a «Silly American, roasts aren’t for dinner» thing. Anyways, then I ordered the Pork and Chorizo burger. A few min later they tell me they are out of that. appropriately apologetic, no big deal. I order something else, but then a few min later my burger shows up. A bit confusing, but no harm done, and OHMY was it delicious. Topped with pork cheek and nice pickle mayo sauce. If you don’t already know this, if a menu has an item with cheek, just order that. You can’t go wrong with cheek. Dessert — got the salted caramel and chocolate cheesecake. Um, yum. But really, how could it not be yum? Prices were very reasonable for the quality — I plan to go back if I am in town again.

I absolutely loved the Forth and can’t wait to go back. Maybe I’ll go back today, actually. We decided to go along as part of my constant search to find the best vegetarian Sunday roast dinner. I saw on their website that they did a veggie option and off we went. We were greeted on entry by a friendly barmaid, and ordered a pint of real ale and a ginger beer(which was a brand I’d never tried before — really spicy and tasty). All the best seats by the fire and in the cosy corners were taken, but we managed to get a quiet table in the back room. The veggie dinner was fantastic(although the gravy was a bit sweet) and the nut roast was gorgeous. The staff were incredibly friendly and stopped for a chat in a way that seemed genuine and happy, not like a kind of forced, «so, what else are you up to today» kind of thing. On the negatives, the toilets a bit scruffy and we were a bit cold, but next time we’ll sit by the fire. Otherwise, perfect! Highly recommended and we’ll definitely be returning soon!

Definitely one of my favourite pubs in the town. Good atmosphere, staff and drinks. Nicely tucked away but still very popular

This fantastic pub has been dubbed«our local» by my boyfriend, and we try to stop by regularly. They have a fun pub quiz on Mondays which we always do fairly poorly at, but really enjoy nonetheless! £1 to play. Monday is also 2 burgers and 2 pints for £18 night, which is a bargain as you can pick any burger on the menu(pints are only Becks or Doom Bar — or you can get soda). We did this last Monday and I really enjoyed my burger with smoked bacon, avocado, and blue cheese. They don’t cook them to order so none of them were pink in the middle at all, but they were still quite juicy and flavorful. Manageable portion size too. Comes with chips and a couple of crispy onion rings! Their food menu always looks so appealing and I’d love to come back to try more, as the burgers are definitely a bargain. Staff is friendly and funny, and the pub has lots of quirks(like little cartoon chalk drawings of all the employees, listing their favorite meal/drink). Seating is comfortable — tables by the window, big booths, a bit of outdoor seating upstairs, and a dark inner room for more intimate conversations. There’s a mix of families, the after-work crowd, young, and old. Not a place where partiers come to make noise, so you can certainly have a relaxing evening here. Good variety of lagers and ales on draft, and a decent selection of wine and cocktail creations too. One of the best pubs in town, for sure! Oh, join their mailing list and you’ll get a £5 off promotional code too!

Love this place. Not too far from central station. Give it a look next time you’re in the area.

This is a great find its close to the train station, and spacious, with lots of rooms and an upstairs balcony bar. Large, clean upstairs bathroom, complete with a chair infront of the mirror for last minute makeup touchups! The service is great, with friendly and helpful staff. They also have a fantastic variety of imported lagers and local ales on tap. Didn’t get a chance to taste the grub, but the menu looked tasty.

Good service, good range of ales and very good tunes on on the Sunday afternoon we ventured in. The potted mackerel was a good starter and the ox cheeks pie with kale mash was filling but could have done with a second veg accompaniment.

Not as good as it used to be, but that’s not a review so I’ll get on with it: Bar is located a 5-minute wander from Central Station, halfway up the entertainingly named and narrow Pink Lane. Great low-key exterior, interior boasts attractively shabby furniture and decent décor. Appealing to the complicatedly-waxed hair brigade, this is a city centre pub for those twenty-somethings that are too zeitgeisty for city centre pubs. Stretching across several ‘salons’ and artfully under-lit, this pub boasts a fairly straighforward menu and a variety of ales, but is probably not as good as it thinks it is. The location and layout makes you think that it’s a must-visit, its heart-stopping prices hint that someone in charge must have a sense of humour, but there’s just something too cool-for-school about the bar staff to make it really welcoming. Gets to be standing-room only fairly quickly too. And totally don’t think about buying crisps with your pint; there won’t be much change out of a tenner!

Great pub. Bit pricey though. Infinitely better since the smoking ban came in

Top litle boozer. Easily my favorite in the whole of Newcastle. It feels so far removed form all the other shit bars just around the corner — exactly the reason we like it.

My favorite pub in Newcastle. It has a great reputation and it is well deserved. The relaxed atmosphre attracts hardened flat cap real ale drinkers, young profesionals and musical youngsters alike. Everyone mixes really well and you feel very at home as soon as you enter the bar. The sign above the bar gives you a little idea of the philosophy of the owners. ‘We don’t sell pints if strongbow, Bacardi breezers or that stuff that Peter Kay advertises’ –Priceless. If Carling made pubs, this would be the best pub in the world. and it wouldn’t sell Carling!

Cracking pub tucked away just up from Central Station which serves a pretty decent selection of beers, although my favourite there, Sierra Nevada, is nearly £4 a pint! London prices. Its always busy, which is a good sign, but means you invariably wait a while at the bar and have to have good luck to get a seat. All that being said, one of my fave places in this part of town, just wish a few less people thought the same!

Too ‘posey’. Disinterested bar staff. Nothing to make it stand out at alland £3 a pint too(a result of the recent refurbishment, no doubt). Just doesn’t feel comfortable.

Unfortunately for such a trendy place, it has the problem that it’s gone too far and just become pretentious. The beer and wine is good but the atmosphere has suffered from idiot posers who have nothing to add to the place apart from their hilarious attempts at fashionable clothes. Go to the head of steam instead, it’s not up its own backside

The Forth is a fantastic pub /gastropub. It’s like the hip London pub you’ve never found but with a surprisingly low amount of ‘scenester’ types that make you feel isolated from most genuinely great places. The food is great too. pleanty for us vegetarian types. If you’re feeling flush you can’t go there without trying the amazing strawberry smoothie beer. Only criticism, if this is a negative, is that it does get really packed on a night so(if you’re planning to secretly binge drink like most of us do) it does take a while to get a round in. PS the video below isnt great but if you’re short-sighted it always helps to scope a place before you go :) Video link:

It’s just been done out, and I’ve just been for lunch! As far as being done out all the woodwork is now dark green save for the bar which is deep burgundy. There are new light fittings, and the dodgy old ladies has gone. There is now a roof terrace although I didn’t inspect it. We looked at the menu and chose our order, only to be told when we got to the bar that half the menu was now off. The bar lady was pleasant and apologetic, and the man that collected our plates was charming. We ended up with a steak bagette each, which was pretty good.

This place is definately atmospheric! It gets really busy but the crowd are really friendly and it’s so cosy! If you can get a seat you’ll probably not move all night! The drinks are reasonably priced too. Definately one of my favourites.

Tucked away on a small cobbled street near Central Station this place is just wonderful. The décor is great and the whole pub has a very warm and welcoming feel whether it’s for a quick drink and catch up with a mate during the day or a whole evening’s worth of boozing. The service can be a little slow as they tend to be understaffed most of the time, but other than this minor detail everything is good– even the food is very tasty! It’s medium sized and tends to get quite busy but that adds to its charm and atmosphere.
