Coming in from continental Europe on business, I was checking Qype for recommendations to dine out. I ended up with a bunch of colleagues trying to find the place as I didn’t get it immediately that the joint is located on the second floor INSIDE The Gate, which is actually a cinema-multiplex with some stuff(diners, etc.) around. After getting some grief from my colleagues that we couldn’t find it immediately, we ended up seated in the cube. On the first glance I’d categorize as fancy. The service is attentive and friendly, which I didn’t expect, as I had read a few bad ratings(nice surprise after all). The menu is diversified and each entry is described(especially The Specials), so that somebody who’s not familiar with Indian food, is still able to understand, what s/he orders. We had the mixed starters to, well as the name says it, start with. Even though there are some interestingly looking things on that platter, there is not one thing that tasted bad(side note: the samosas, whether lamb or vegetable were my personal favourites). After the starters everybody went his/her own way in the menu so that we were able to grade a pretty broad part of the menu(Karhai Gosht, Lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Jalfreezi, Steamed Roller Chicken, Indian Railway Lamb Curry). At first, I thought I would have to order a second portion as they look small. The clue is they’re actually not! We had put everything in the middle so that everybody can try a bit of everything. The stuff marked as so hot on the menu, that it may burn you to hell directly is spicy, but still delicious. The explosion of flavours on your tongue OMG! Excellent! All in all the only thing I personally didn’t like, which is not due to their way of preparing it, but rather the mix of ingredients in general, is the Peshwari Naan. Everything else, and especially the lamb, can be recommended here! So if you end up to be in Newcastle AND you’re looking for a nice place to have delicious and affordable food. the spice cube is the place to go.

I went to this restaurant a couple summers ago on a trip with my girlfriend. We were looking for a place to eat while walking around and saw Spice Cube. I cannot begin to describe the amazingness that is this restaurant. The host was extremely friendly, one of the things I remember even a year later. The waiting staff were all very responsive and friendly as well. Their explanations of the dishes were very helpful and informative. The food was amazing. The best Indian food I’ve ever had. They have a diverse selection of dishes as well. Some items were nice and spicy while others were more mild. The deserts were awesome too. I seriously can’t say enough about this place, it’s one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The next time I’m in the UK I am making it a point to get up to Newcastle again so I can go to Spice Cube.

Simply the best Indian restaurant in the north east! Award winning, fantastic food, they do a full menu, buffet before the cinema and special evenings. Will also do a takeaway at a discount. Very friendly staff always looking to please. Very highly recommended.

This restaurant is one of my favourites in Newcastle. It’s based in the Gate and has been voted top Indian restaurant in the North East, an accolade which it really deserves. The food is so full of flavour, not just hot, and the choice of dishes very different from your run of the mill Indian restaurant. Décor is very stylish, music nice and tables not too close together. Staff very friendly and helpful when choosing. They also pointed out the early evening special of a free starter with a main course when you also order rice or a bread(we had ordered biryani so they recommended we order a nan bread as well so we got the more expensive starter free.) They also have lunchtime specials although I’ve not tried these. Have eaten here on many occasions and tried lots of things on the menu, all have been delicious. One warning though, the peshwari nan has dates in it and is quite sweet, with almost a pudding taste. I quite liked this but my other half didn’t which meant more for me to eat!
