Basement Trebles Bar

Basement is a must go to place in town. But not for the right reasons, the drink is cheap and the music is good but the place itself is really grotty, the seats are usually slashed and the floors are sticky. In saying that they do sell skittles drinks which i am in love with and i’ve always had a good time whenever i’ve been.

Newcastle upon Tyne has some fantastic bars and clubs in and around the City Centre but few can offer night goers trebles at these sorts of prices. The Basement Bar situated at the Centre of Newcastle and is close by The Monument and entrance to Eldon Square. You could critizise the Doormen for being strict but it’s best to keep the troublemakers out. The venue is relaxed and pleasant and makes good use of all the facilities it has to hand. The staff are students and are friendly and experienced. The staff are mainly students from local Universities. I would rate this bar a 3 out of 5.

I went to Basement on my first big night out in Newcastle. I’ve got to say the bouncers do a very poor job of controlling the number of people in and out. There was hardly space to breath in there, let alone dance. The only respite I got was when I was standing by a table. They play music that will suite most people’s tastes but it’s so loud you can’t here yourself think. I’m just glad we left when we did. So my advice is only go there if you like that kind of thing.

I don’t think my review of this place will be very lengthy due to the time I stayed there.
En Route to Central Station to where I normally drink I stopped off in this bar having just been for drink in DB Social and thought would stop in couple of bars on way down.
What a mistake! Going down the extremely steep stairs you are greeted by horrendous music and a lot of people in Henry Lloyd and other Chav brands, the atmosphere is awful and can sense that trouble is on the horizon.
Had a drink which I drank pretty sharpish and vacated the premises.
I think to drink here you really have to be the type of person who wears full tracksuits with their socks tucked in pants and Rockort boots.
If you are just a normal person be wary of this place, its not nice.

Basement is an awesome place, trebles are mega cheap (something like 3 for a fiver on certain nights) and you can get 2 skittles cocktails for £5 as well. The music is decent and the DJ will stick on just about anything you ask for. The place has a cool undergroundy atmosphere and gets pretty busy with students and stuff most nights. The stairs are pretty steep so I wouldn’t recommend trying to go in half cut.
