Cafe Zonzo

We go there once in a while because our kids love it there. The young lady there (manageress?) is always very nice and makes kids feel welcomed and special. Our little ones usually have little bullet pasta which is always nice. Peasant menu is reasonable and they are all delicious. However meat & fish main course can be hit and miss. I find fish dish especially can be a bit blunt.
We go there more for the friendly atmosphere and the service rather than for fine dining experience. After all it’s a family Italian restaurant.
One thing that always leaves bitter taste in my mouth, though, is there is this particular waiter who seems to be a little too unfriendly towards us (he is young-​ish but has worked there for long time as far as I can remember). Last time we were there, whenever the other waiter came to our table for taking order/​clearing plates, this guy came running to him and tried to engage him in private conversation in very loud Italian (laughing, patting his back etc.) all the while ignoring us completely. We have never caused any trouble there in the past so I don’t quite get his behaviour.
But that’s just us, I am sure he is very nice to other customers.

Café Zonzo is a small, modern Italian restaurant tucked away in residential area of Sandyford. When I visited this week, I had one of those frustrating evenings where I never quite got to eat what I wanted. The freshly baked bread with olive oil, sea salt and rosemary was devoured pretty quickly and I blinked and therefore missed eating the beautifully presented shared starter platters we ordered. And then the main courses came. There was nothing wrong with my baked chicken with roast potatoes — in fact, it was tasty and at £5 quite a bargain — but everyone else’s looked much better and I spent the rest of the evening gazing at the mushroom risotto on someone else’s plate. So all in all, I think this is a rather good restaurant. Just make sure you don’t go with my greedy friends!
