Santana’s

I have been going here on and off here for 4 years and it’s definitely a neighbourhood favourite. The £4.95 meal deal (used to be £3.95) has become a well known and loved staple.
The food is standard, nothing spectacular but for the price it is great value. I would highly recommend the Calzone, although it can be quite heavy. The amaretto cake for dessert is one of my favourites.
One of the most disappointing aspects of Santanas is the staff. Some of them are polite and well trained but some our quite rude and comes across aggressive. Another downside of the place are their receipts — still hand scrawled pieces of paper. They can be quite unclear and have had a few indescrepancies in the past and been overcharged.
Overall a good place to grab something quick but wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here

Been going here on and off for over 15 years, always been a good experience with food being the main attraction. Had many a steak here, always good, great for larger groups as I’ve seen 20 plus people at the same table before!

Absolutely terrible service and poor food.
We booked a table for Sunday lunch and arrived on time. The place was empty.
It took 15 minutes to get drink orders, another 10 for food orders and then 30 minutes later we got our starter.
AN HOUR later more people came in the place was packed and everyone but our table had had their starters and mains, some even had their desserts.
The servers were not helpful and when we got our main courses one of us got the wrong dish and had to wait even longer.
I’ll never visit again.

Large party arrived on a quiet tues night in October pizza and other bits and pieces ordered all quite good. Staff were a bit rushed but it was quiet
my pizza was a bit burnt but ok. Coleslaw was on the cheap side but it got eaten

Been here 4 times this last few months and always earlyish and for what i have been paying i cannot complain, its nice for a cheap but cheerful early evening meal when we couldnt be bothered to cook after a hard days work, 2 of us dined and had a drink for under £20 i understand people moan about been rushed but these places work on a low cost and fast turn over, if you want a nice relaxed meal which you can sit at the table for hours go to a dearer restaurant where this is the idea you get what you pay for here but we liked it.

Always use to go to this place as a kid. Food has always and still is tasty. The 3 course special they have on is a win for everyone at £3.95 cant go wrong! The only thing i dont lik about Santana’s is i feel like your rushed slighty to eat and go, where i prefer to have a glass of wine or 2 after the meal.

been here for years for a cheap quick pizza before the peoples theatre. Came as a child and ws always made a fuss of loved it so much. You pay for what you get and we like it :)

I’m sure the management has changed.
The food is not as good and the atmosphere has changed totally. I asked twice if the management had changed hands recently and the waitress looked embarrassed and would not answer.
Make sure the staff ask you if your meal is ok during the meal (they won’t) otherwise you won’t be asked until you are finished and then it’s too late I wouldn’t be polite if you don’t like it say so during.
We paid £50 odd pounds for a mid week meal.
When asked by the waitress as she cleared the plates away, Was everything ok?, I replied, No, the waitress replied I’ll tell chef!!!
Wonder what ‘chef’ said?
I’ll never know.
Came BACK, last week to give it another try and my husband got food poisoning A&E at RVI on Saturday as he had unbearable head pain, nausea etc, ten minutes after we got home from Santana’s he was ill, there was a hair in his starter go figure the doctor said his blood tests showed infection, probably food poisoning given the symptoms he’s self employed and has already lost two days work
We have been visiting Santanas for over 20 years, anyway, I’m not recommending Santanas after 20 years plus I’m reluctantly leaving it’s clientele.

I’ve dined at Santana’s since the week it opened and never had problems with the food. I’m so surprised by the comments regarding the quality!!!
I only once had a pizza that wasn’t cooked properly in the middle, it was promptly taken away and a fresh cooked, new pizza brought as soon as it was ready (with profuse apologise)
I’ve always found the staff hardworking (always busy) and especially lovely to kids.

Santana’s is never going to win food of the year award but for cheap and cheerful you can’t beat it. The atmosphere is always brilliant and for an average price of £4.50 what more could you want. For a good night out with a little bit of quirkiness where better than Santana’s.

I love this place: two words spring to mind for Santana’s: CHEAP and CHEERFUL. The prices are well matched to the food quality — but the staff more than make up for it. Very friendly, Santana’s is bubbling with personality! If you’re a student or just hard pushed for cash, this (honestly) is a great place for a first date.

This place is very popular with students and locals alike. The food is pretty average, but it is cheap so you are definitely not getting ripped off. If you are after something not pretentious with an easygoing atmosphere this is the right place. However if you are after somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or savour some excellent Italian food, there are plenty of other places in the area I would recommend before Santana’s!

Santana’s is an authentic Italian restraunt in the heart of Newcastle’s student district. The prices are amazing with Pizza or Pasta costing between £4-£5. It also has a great rustic Italian atmosphere and the staff are all extremely friendly. Drinks prices ar also fair and most cost less than they do in the surrounding pubs.

The best restaurant in the whole of Newcastle and the cheapest I’ve ever been to, main courses tend to cost from £3 to £5. The staff are fab, the food is fantastic, it’s the best restaurant ever. I love this place so much. Nothing matches, the cutlery doesn’t match, neither do the tiles on the walls or the light bulbs in the toilets. It’s very different but it’s the best.
