Great gigs, great food, super layout, with plenty of different areas, including large outdoor area. It’s just perfect really.

Great place for a relaxed night out and a laugh with friends.
Fully of arty and interesting people this place is worth visit! The bar is fully stocked and the prices are very reasonable.
They have live bands on and often support local up and coming talent, which is always an interesting night out.

But, as there so often is, there’s a but…
The Cluny’s a great venue but on this occasion the sound wasn’t great. A worrying amount of feedback throughout Rob Heron and the Teapad Orchestra’s album launch made for numerous mildly annoyed ears and some serious death glares from the band in the general direction of the sound man.
Having said that, there might have been a problem with the equipment or instruments or cables, and when the sound was good, it did stay that way for a while. I once watched my sound engineer friend set up a ten piece ska band in the basement of a tapas restaurant. Just watching this made for a terribly stressful experience. At the end of the night, he was one giant bead of sweat. Rob Heron’s band were on the larger side that night, with additional brass players. So I get that sometimes things might not go to plan. Regardless, it really didn’t make the night any less enjoyable and we all agreed that we’d come back to the Cluny in a heartbeat and even love to play as a band. It’s a great sized venue with a genuinely homegrown feel to it. From the posters strewn across the wall, it’s clear that the Cluny is proud of its local music scene.
With a kick-​ass kitchen next door and what looked like a knock-‘em-dead selection of beer, the Cluny is quite the place for music in Newcastle.
Oh, and the floor bounces, YEAH.

you couldhave lived in Newcastle your whole life andnever stumbled across this place, and what a shame that would be. The Cluny is situated underneath the Biker bridge in themost awkward of places. However, the venue itself is fantastic if your into live music and a cracking atmosphere. The Cluny is one of thoseplaces that just has that cool vibe. whether there is a band or not, its a great place to visit. a wife rangeof drinks, especially whiskey if I remind correctly, and all served at reasonable student friendly prices. And for all you non-​students that have just been put off by tht last comment, do not fret. This place is open to everyone, and the diverse clientel u will see wlkin in and out its doors are clear evidence of this. 3thumbs up for TheCluney

Great place to watch a small gig. Parking across the way. Good atmosphere. Recommended.

The Cluny can be a bit hit and miss. I’ve seen some great live music there — it’s a really intimate venue that suits smaller bands. And there’s a wide selection of ales which are well worth a try.
My only gripe is the service. ‘Too cool for school’ doesn’t go down well with me. Customer service is about the customer, and I think The Cluny’s staff sometimes forget that.
Recently, fancying a change from beer, I made the mistake of asking if they had a wine list…
Cluny (with raised eyebrow): …No!
Me: Oh. Okay. What wines do you have?
Cluny: What wine do you want?
Me: Er… Well… Chardonnay?
Cluny: We don’t have Chardonnay.
Me: Right… What do you have?
Cluny: We have the house white.
At this point I decided to cut my losses and go somewhere else for a drink.
Don’t get me wrong — The Cluny is well worth a try for the beer and the lovely location at Ouseburn.
Just don’t ask for the Chardonnay…

The Cluny is great for enjoying live music, lounging about with your mates and having good food at a reasonable price. It has an excellent selection of beer, friendly staff, good service and a comfy laid back atmosphere. Its a student hang out so you won’t find any hassle there. Worth a visit definatley.

The Cluny is set in the Ouseburn Valley on the edge of Newcastle’s City Centre. The Ouseburn consists of a number of refurbished warehouses and new development alongside a tidal canal.
The Cluny is a bar which hosts live bands in an area at the back of the place, I am not sure of the capacity but it is intimate.
The bar is relaxed and informal and the food is tasty and relatively inexpensive.
The bar does not suit any particular age group and has a varied crowd.

The cluny is a fanastic pub, with loads going on. Live music, comfortable atmosphere, every time I’ve been I’ve had a good time. They’ve got a good selection too. My favourite being Duvel, a belgian beer on tap which tops in at 8.5%. If your going to enjoy that one, you better take the metro home

You can’t live in Newcastle and not have visited this place. THe legendary sunday lunch is a start, as are the numerous top-​class gigs they put on (the young knives just as they released their first album, for example. They even got Nile — a death metal band from the US — to come over, but the stage was too small to fit the drummer’s massive drum kit onto it!!). Great vibe, not poncy or pretentious which makes it automatically cool. You can sit outside all day or make it the first stop on a tour of the ouseburn valley pubs.

Love this place. They have gigs in one part of the pub, they have a dedicated pub area and do great food. It is a little scruffy, but perfect on a wet Sunday– get lunch and stay till they throw you out! Try the Cherry Beer– it’s great. They will only sell it in halves though! The gigs are good fun too. All in all, it is worth the trek to get here. Very relaxed, with sofas and a beer garden.

Im not sure why the Cluny is listed twice! The Cluny is a great bar in the Ouseburn Valley about 1.5 miles form City Centre. Unless you know wheer you are going get a cab or drive. If you choose the latter youll be disappointed as in summer i is very easy to put down roots and then you are stuck. Live gigs of all sorts occur here and worth checking out.
There is a 3 times per year wine tasting (not snobby) run by Oddbins. This is a local gem and try for tickets for it if you can £12!!!

This is a great bar though a little out of the way so if I go it is usually for the night It is quite a large bar and has a good range of ale. The vodka is good as well the food is nice and not to expensive they do a good chilli
It really is a great night out for live music and bands you havent heard before
Take a taxi if you havent been there before as it is a farther walk from the city centre than you think that or I am really lazy

this is a nice intimate place and is well worth checking out for all the newest up and coming acts. the gigs are always well priced and the atmosphere is normally good.

The Cluny is THE music venue for people in the know. I kind of hesitated in giving it 5 stars in case it attracts people that might ruin the atmosphere. Yes it does have its fair amount of ladrock bands but it really is an excellent venue: See Moira Stewart below!
During the day it’s a lovely place to hang around too. The menu is superb for us veggie types too x

A great, laid back bar with a brilliant range of beers and fantastic pub grub. The comfy sofas mean you could stay here all day and on a sunny afternoon you can laze on the grass outside and enjoy a relaxing drink. Lots of live music in the seperate venue through the back of the bar aso make it a great place to new bands first

This pub has a huge selection of decent food, real ales at reasonable prices. The Cluny has two parts to it. There’s the main pub area with an ‘L’ shaped bar and then there’s the venue bit with a cosy stage area. There is also a small bar in the venue area which get’s very squashy at gigs. Many local unsigned bands play here aswell as touring bands. Even though this place is tucked out of the way a little, it still manages to attract lot’s of people, usually the arty/​crafty/​musicy sort. This place also has rehearsal rooms and studios. There are art classes too, pottery included. I recommend this place if you want to go somewhere that’s not bang in the middle of town but has vibe.

The Clooney is a very nice pub in an extremely pleasant location. It offers a large selection of beers and wines from across the globe and is often full of students and young professionals. The food is also nice and of good quality. One problem with the Clooney is the niche choice of music which sticks to Indie and very rarely moves away to accomodate other tastes.
