Trillians Rock Bar

Lovely pub, one of my favourites in Newcastle.
Very good for gigs — even if they’re a bit rubbish it’s still a laugh. And usually free so you can’t lose, really!
They’ve had some cracking acts on lately, such as Mike TV and UncommonMenFromMars.
One of the best things about this place is how refreshingly unpretentious it is, which makes a change from some of the recent bar openings in town.
Music is always good, although be warned — they really crank up the volume later on at night!

This place has been going down the pan for the past 10 years and is in a sorry state, now.
Even when is started doing food, I was warned by the barman when asking if they did «Mind, Stevie’s cookin it!». I wasn’t sure who Stevie was, but I swerved that one.
In the years which followed, what must be poor management has attempted to attract students with themes, horrid drinks promos, loyalty cards and the like. Not a good beer selection, with the Caffreys being taken off being the killer. I always drink Dog when I am there, but, unbelievably they did not have any for the first time I have ever seen AT XMAS time???
Because of my memories of the place, I keep going back, but it just makes me sadder and sadder.
Get rid of all the tat, get some good ales in, and find someone who can book a band or two. If you want to introduce a loyalty card, make it to do with the number of bands you have come to see, not the amount of crap you hoy down your neck.

Absolutely LOVE Trillians. Great bar for just hanging out in (something the perdus and baby lynches don’t give you) I see people in there reading books, playing scrabble, chatting with mates or just rocking out. Always live music on, sometimes its a bit ropey but at least there is a wide selection of music so it doesn’t get stale.
The Sunday Pub Quiz is always a laugh, and the grungey look is what makes most people there feel at home. This is a bar where the metalheads, geeks, rockers, weirdos and average folk can go and not feel judged nor feel the need to stick to a dress code.
Great bar I would give it a 5 but I don’t want the decending masses to think of it as a cool bar and ruin it for the loyal clients (as happened at Gothem)

quite a good rock bar, quite dark and gloomy inside so not the best atmosphere. tends to be quite quiet on an average night but has some good bands on and its always a good night.

A ‘rock’ bar, but in my opinion not a real rock bar, just some corporate pub designers idea of one. Still not bad though, gets a mix of students, rockers, goths, toon army, etc and never any problems. Good jukebox and always live bands to watch — even though some are ‘orrible.
Food can be a bit hit and miss. every time I order something the guy comes back from the kitchen with the news that ‘it’s off’. Also, I don’t think they serve tea/​coffee since their machine broke down a long time ago and they couldn’t even be bothered to buy a kettle from the nearby Argos shop on Northumberland Street (my brilliant suggestion).
I go elsewhere for my food now but still pop in for a pint the odd time and a burst of Rob Zombie on the jukebox, though I preferred it better when it was the Jubilee and before then, the Man On The Moon.

Yes it used to be much better years ago when there was the lipstick walls and better bands but it is still a good place to
It is diffucult for disable as there are steep stairs to get down
It does nice food in the day time the chilli is good but there isnt the range there used to be of drink — they used to do loads of shots and cocktails with various devious names and the atmosphere was dark and sexy
Now its a little like the kids have come in to play
The jukebox is still good though and if you want a quick cheap drink and some food when out without all the pop music this is the place to come

I remember the’80’s when this was called firstly The Man In The Moon, and then The Jubilee. It was briefly fitted out in shiny copper colours and Roger Dean pictures before going down the grunge route. I used to be in here EVERY Friday and Saturday back then.
It used to be populated by skinny heavy metal boys, and girls in lingerie, leather, PVC and spandex (that was me), but now it just feels a bit grubby. I have always been a bit of a rocker at heart, but more recently I became bored of the choices of beer, the EXCESSIVLY loud music which made my ears ring (although talking in sign language with my funny friend Mandy made it good), and the always broken toilets.
There can be some good bands on, and some sad old acts too. I saw Pete Way’s band Waysted there a couple of years back. My, how he has sunk low since the early days. The band played without an entrance fee, when once they played at Donington!
The DJ is Big Gordon who used to do the Mayfair many years ago.
If you like dark dungeons and overly loud rock music, then this might be the place for you. Access is down alot of stairs so beware, and it’s desperately in need of a cheer up.
There was a quiz every Sunday which always was amusing. Trying to get the compere (Glammy Simon) to read out very offensive team names, and watching kids with a zillion piercings and tattoos discussing the periodic table and history of European Royalty (they all were very brainy and took the whole thing very seriously), kept me going every week for a good couple of years!
I wonder if it is still going.

Monday nights are what this place is all about starting with £1 Party from 7pm and a band. Even though the selection is pretty limited, at £1.50 a pint you can’t complain. Trillians or ‘Trills’ as the regular trolls put it, has been around for decades and is located off Northumberland Street (shoppers central). This means that all walks of life get through the doors. Business men can be seen enjoying the lush food served daily. By night, the bar is crowded with fat sweaty greasy men sporting AC/​DC t-​shirts and people looking for a cheap night out. There is a DJ and decent jukebox for when bands aren’t on stage. This place is good for a pre club piss up or a nice afternoon pint.
