This motorway service branch is in Keele, between J15 and J16 on the M6. On my way to Newport, I decided to stop at this particular branch to grab something to eat and maybe have a look around Waitrose, with hours to kill before my appointment. When I arrived, I was slightly dissapointed that all that was here was mainly big names: Subway Harry Ramsdens Papa John’s Pizza Burger King Starbucks WHsmith Mainly you’re general things at a Welcome Break motorway stop. When I arrived, I asked a woman who worked at the services for advice where to eat and she reccomened the breakfast from Harry Ramsdens, after we got talking she appeared to be very nice and also was gluten free as well, she told me despite Harry Ramsden’s not being able to guarantee anything is gluten free, she normally eats there and is fine, she even offered me the gluten free bread she had in her bag, she was really nice and helpful explaining to Harry Ramsden’s too, it is just a shame she forgot to pack the role! They is a few Starbucks stores in this branch as well, one upstairs where the KFC is and one downstairs, they appear to be nice stores. This branch of services is very poor for the disabled, eldery and prams with it being located over numerous floors, on your ground floor you have, Subway and then Harry Ramsdens, WHsmith, Papa Johns and a Starbucks but then you have to go up an escalator(no lift access) to the next floor where they is another Starbucks, Burger King and KFC but then if you want to go down to the other side where the likes of Waitrose is, they is a flight of stairs and the escalator what takes you up seems to be the only one as you do have to walk down the stairs, which can be bad for many people. I really feel disabled access is terrible in this services if you want to go beyond what is on floor one, people must of gone up that escatlor before and been unable to get down. They is no free wifi in this branch of Welcome Break however they is a good 3g connection, unlike most of the motorway this is on. The WHsmith in this services even stocks the Urban Eat products, which I have spent some time looking for, these include wraps, salads and sandwiches, even a gluten free wrap. They are pricey but with them being so hard to find, I guess they can get away with it. It isn’t hard to get a coffee here, they is a Starbucks who sell coffee, Costa Coffee machine in WHsmith, Subway sell coffee, Harry Ramsdens do, KFC do and I guess Burger King do, Waitrose stores normally have coffee machines however I can’t comment on the one located here. WHsmith sell phone accesories but they is also a small phone shop called Fonebitz, on the southbound side next to Starbucks. As with most branches of services, Welcome Break do run a Gamezone here. Overall, this is one of the better motorway services for choice wise however it isn’t disabled friendy apart from the first run of stores, it did appear to be clean however and the staff was nice, the food could of been much better however this is still one of the better branches of motorway services, it is also quieter, which you need after a long time driving in the car, so I feel 3 stars would be accurate for Keele Welcome Break.
