After a week of fairly bland, repetitious English food, The Lancer provided, hands down, the best meal we had over a 7-night stay in Newmarket. Possible better than any Indian food I’ve had in the States. I highly recommend the mushroom rice. It should go with just about any of the sauces and entrees. Enjoyed the chicken tikka Massala(chicken breast chunks in a creamy tomato sauce), Lancer specialty grill(assorted meats in a spicy sauce), Sag paneer(spinach and cheese), and the allo gobi(spicy potato and cauliflower). Top notch dinner for two for about 30 pounds.

This restaurant, if I may call it that, is overpriced and mouldy. My onion barges were soggy and the service was terrible. I had coleslaw served to me, I didn’t even order coleslaw.

Lancer is by far my most favorite Bangladesh/North Indian restaurant in England. I like to start off with a lentil dal soup or the papadums. The papadums are always fresh and very crunchy. The dipping sauces are always spot on. There is a tomato onion based dipping sauce and it is very nice to pair it with the onions. The yogurt mint sauce is always fresh and the mango chutney is just the right sweet and sour. Lately I have been in a quest to try almost every dish on the menu, but I do get stuck on my favorites, but I am stuck on three favorites, but everything I have tried has turned out to be my favorite. My favorites are: The Lancer Special Biryani which is medium spiced. It comes with chicken tikka, lamb tikka and king prawn. I always asked them to put duck in it too. They always fulfill my special requests. Biryani dishes are great because they come with their own meat, rice and curry sauce. The duck masala is a mild curry dish with succulent pieces of duck. The duck melts in your mouth. It has a coconut curry to it. I always order coconut rice to go with it. I also enjoy eating this curry with pashwari nan. Lancer has by far the best coconut nan and coconut rice then any other Indian restaurant I have eaten at. I have tried many in England because I love Indian food! The butter chicken is sweet and creamy another mild curry. It has nice bite sized pieces of chicken breast. I like to eat this dish with coconut rice and a stuffed vegetable porratha. Favorites beverages are Tiger beer fresh from the tap, Indian tea(it contains caffeine), and their house wines. Always a great dining experience.
