This restaurant is nothing less than tragic, they don’t even notice when you walk in, it took about 10 minutes before they even bother to come and bring menus, we had to go and ask! There were customers that had been there before we arrived and still hadn’t had there order taken. You would think the restaurant was busy, but there was only a handful of customers in and there were three members of staff on the floor, who seemed miserable and uninterested, a member of staff actually came across from Burger King to clear tables as they weren’t bothering. It is such a crying shame the service is so poor, because when the food came, it wasn’t actually that bad, but the experience was so poor, it really left a bad taste in your mouth.

Meh indeed. Our server had very little interest in doing the job. Long day for him perhaps. And they appeared to be out of a few things from the menu. Me: I’ll have the bacon and chicken club please Him: We are out of chicken Me: I’ll have the nachos with the beef chilli, please Him: We are out of beef chill Me: Hmmmmm. Filled potato skins and chips, please Him: OK Nether of which were very nice. The skins were over cooked. I would not go back to Dexters if I am honest. I’d go to Burger King next door in preference. And I don’t even like Burger King.

As I’ve been using Bristol a few times over the last year, its only been in the last couple of visits, I’ve ventured upstairs and discovered those places hidden at the back. Post work, I’m desperate for solitude and food and wander around, trashmag in hand so I’m up to date with who Cheryl is dating now, in search of something gluten free for dinner. This visit I came across Dexters and liked it. Like most airport eateries, you will pay a premium for eating here and I did think the grill meal which included gammon steak was a bit expensive for a gammon steak(!), but escaping the stag and hen do’s and the Euro’s at the Weatherspoons type bar, I dragged my tired, weary legs to a nice comfy booth in Dexters. The style of Dexters is upmarket American diner — all steaks, grills and burgers with a mixture of booths, bar seating and tables in between at the back of Bristol airport. Its not cramped so lots of space but the back(near the entrance and away from Burger King) is quite quiet. Being gluten free, I didn’t want to risk an adverse reaction pre-flight so I opted for the fall back GF meal — cheesy nachos at £7.95 and Coke at £2.10. There was a delay in the food issue as the kitchen was backed up — up to 20 – 30 minutes waiting time but I had 3 hours to kill and this week’s trashmag of choice was OK! so lots of how to dress, do hair, nab a prince like Kate Middleton(sorry Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge) articles to keep me occupied after a long day at work. I think the nachos were a sharing meal — they came in a huge dish with melted cheese on top and the usual dips. It would have been rude to leave some so I finished the lot off — good nachos and I’ll definitely come back here next time I’m flying out of Bristol. From what I could see from other food orders around me, portions were decent and staff, although busy were friendly and helpful.
