From the outside, this place looks pretty inviting and respectable. I think it’s the wooden decking out the front which gives it this air. The inside is a little dated but warm and clean enough. The small bar has no cask ale but is reasonably priced. I had a pint of horrible M&B Mild for £2.35(M&B’s fault, not the Old Cross) and sat happily ensconsed in watching a ladies crown green bowling game going on at the side of the pub which, as you might have guessed, houses the Old Cross Bowling Club. The pub does food which looks very reasonably priced(£1 for a sandwich?!) and the lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly(poured a good pint too). Children aren’t allowed in, and probably wise as it’s been a while since I last heard so much effing and blinding from so few people in one small place in such a short space of time. Some pubs don’t tolerate that nowadays, some do and that’s their choice and everyone’s free to be as Anglo-Saxon as they want in their vocabulary. I’ve got a mouth like a Scottish builder with Tourette’s sometimes so I can’t complain… Just warning you, like.
