I used to go to The Farrars when it was just a pub, but after hearing my sister rave on about the burgers it now does, I decided to go along with her and try it for myself. It’s totally revamped itself as a burger kitchen which is a bit of a shame as it was a lovely country pub before. However the menu is great– loads of burger choices as well as hot dogs and fries– very similar to the cool ones in the norther quarter, yet up in the saddleworth hills. Does slightly seem out of place for an area which is more ‘countryside’ like, but I guess this is an attempt to attract a younger crowd. I really really wanted the bean burger with avocado and was gutted it wasn’t available. Ah well; second option was a pulled pork and fried chicken option with lots of slaw and cheese. My sister got the same, and safe to say we both enjoyed it, a real bad food treat. It came with loads of BBQ sauce on, and was a huge portion, so really good value. We both also went for chunky chips which you could tell were homemade and still had the potato skins on. Lots of good choices — even a donut burger appeared on the menu– just disappointed about the bean burger! There was a fried halloumi burger on the list too which I also want to go back and try. I would go for 3.5 stars if I could… The downside was having my chosen order not available and also that I do feel turning this pub into a cool-ish burger joint isn’t the best thing for saddleworth. Overall, worth a visit

Its a good pub, credit where credit’s due, but, it just always seems to be filled with posers…

Looking back on my reviews, I am a tad bit generous. I think it is the local girl in me. Sadly I have dropped to a three here. Its not all bad so read on. Firstly, It is one of the busiest pubs around so that is a good start, but because it is busy, there is no where to sit! And if you are not a local you tend to get a few odd looks if they do not recognise you. Which I think is a bit weird, if not rude. They do have lots to offer though such as food which is tasty! Also a quiz night on a Thursday where you can win a gallon of beer and they have free food. So don’t have tea! The beer is what attracts people here. It is good quality and excellent service too. If only it was a bit bigger and more recognised!

A pub that pretends to be nothing but a pub serving great homecooked food. So who cares that the décor may be a bit tired, the staff are friendly and welcoming. Other wannabe gastro-pubs take note — this is the way to do it!

A friendly pub in the Saddleworth hills. It gets quite lively & sometimes abit giddy but I recon this is probbly the best community pub in Saddleworth. I should frequent it more.

Great pub for sitting outside on a weekend afternoon in the sun, on the rare occasion it’s out. It’s two rooms can get really busy when the footballs on and at peak food times. The food is standard bar meal fayre and the chips are great.
