The Halfway House

Here we are again giving it another go nice meal this evening just simple steak and chips with the usual companions mushrooms tomato and a little girkin some very nice chips
Well it was a very nice steak not to tough we had a very nice wine to go with it Cabernet sauvignon
I will say that there’s some improvement to the Xmas one t that I tried .:-)
Onwards to the dessert which was so nice I could have eye two
It was ice cream cake smothered in meringue so good

The Halfway House had nice staff but they did think breadcrumbs chicken was okay for someone with a gluten intolerance like myself, The latte was good my meal was okay but the omelette was not that great, it was quite hard and all the ham was in the same area and tasted like gammon. I was sad to hear they cover their chips in flour, the staff did offer to make me anything I want, within reason so that was nice. My friend ordered Mushroom Soup and Chips he enjoyed them both, he thought they were some of the best chips he had, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, the soup was well seasoned. Another thing I would of wanted but couldn’t was the soup, I was very sad to find out even without the bread it is not gluten free. Overall, this experience was okay but could of been improved in numerous way.
When I asked, the staff provided me a list with items what I can not have however they did leave an item out (The Soup), I am disappointed they did not show a very good knowledge on what items were and were not Gluten Free, a food intolerance sheet what restaurants normally give me would of been nice but they did not seem to have one. It was hard to find something Gluten Free on the menu until one member of staff recommended an Omelette. I was served a Chocolate with my meal, I asked if it contained gluten or not and they did not know, they advised me not to have it, I was upset knowing about my allergy they did try to give me an item what they thought contained gluten.
When I went to this restaurant, It was very quiet, they was only 2 other parties here during our stay. Considering the price I paid, I would of also expected the restaurant to have given a larger portion of Mashed Potato and Baked Beans with my omelette.

The best pub in Royton by far for food and atmosphere. The service is excellent and you wont be dissapointed. Diane and Steve are lovely as are all the staff who are polite and attentive which makes a nice change to some places.
The 3 course Sunday lunch is great and a nice change from some of the cheap slop served at some carveries.
My favorite though is the Fish and Chips, try it and you’ll know why.
On a different note they have entertainment every Friday and Saturday evening, Its a great atmosphere, no idiots, no trouble just friendly people having a good time.
