Dexter’s is great for a meal that’s outside of the traditional British pub-type fare. It’s a treasure in Oundle for that reason. Even with great food, I have one gripe. I ordered a Cuba Libre, which is essentially a fancier term for a rum and coke with a lime twist. Much to my surprise, I noticed we were charge 40p for the lime wedge! I don’t care about the 40p itself, but being charged for a twist with my drink was definitely a first for me and I think a cheap way to squeeze a bit extra out of your customers. Having said that, the drink was fantastic and I will probably have one again. The food is great. The hummus starter is a must-have, and here you can find one of the few decent burgers outside of the US. EIther the beef burger or the halloumi burger, you can’t go wrong. I’d recommend making a reservation for dinner on a weekend nights, as they are often fully booked.
