#489 Dear me, last night was a disaster. Before I go on, however, I just want to let you know that this review is for their Friday student club night — not the restaurant, food, or regular club nights. Anyways, the boyfriend and I were meant to meet up with a bunch of friends for the night around 10PM. But, when we got to Camera(well, more like walked straight in to find all of the lights on and a ton of security guys sitting around), we were told that the club didn’t open until 10:30PM. Immediately, we knew that it was going to be the start of a difficult and bumpy night out. After grabbing drinks at Four Candles and wandering around with everybody, we returned, only to be greeted by the poshest, youngest, and douchiest crowd I’ve been around since I graduated. God, help me now. The only reason we didn’t leave was because it was someone’s birthday and they had settled on Camera. So, persist we did! Before we made it in, though, security was surprised to find out that we weren’t students. They then warned us that, because it was a student night, the crowd was going to be aggressive and that it would be best not to get involved in any sort of scuffle. We shrugged it off and went it anyways. Entry was 5gbp, coat check was 1.5gbp per item, and drinks were about 2−3gbp. So, it was pretty easy to end up spending about 20gbp for no reason. Regardless, the boyfriend and I were able to get in some dancing time. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like anybody else in the club did. Seriously, where did these Oxford kids learn how to dance?! No sense of rhythm or personal space, with plenty of slutty and drunk girls falling all over the place. In all of the craziness, I lost an earring. =( As for layout, there’s a ground floor, as well as a basement. There is only one bar on each floor and the crowds seem to like to hover without moving away. You also tend to get the random tiny girls who like to shove and push their way to the front. Traffic isn’t efficiently organized so people are constantly walking into each other and bumping their way along to their destination. The restrooms were surprisingly huge, but girls can be disgusting when they’re drunk so it was not a pleasant visit into the basement one. The stairs in the middle of the place are a nuisance, taking up a huge amount of space without actually efficiently moving people along. Their DJ’s were pure sh*t yet the girls seemed to love whatever they were churning. You can just hear the excitement in my voice, can’t you? Maybe I’ve just grown too old for all of that sort of ruckus, but I am officially over sloppiness and inebriation too serious for the inebriator to handle. Never again. Kudos for the security team for catching every disagreement before they escalated into full-blown riots.
