Meltz came highly recommended to me from a friend. I stopped in once for breakfast and was happily satisfied with my experience, but I don’t know if I’d rave about it as much as my friend had. Maybe it was just too much hype to live up to, I don’t know. Regardless, it’s a great place for breakfast. You can go full English or you can pick and choose whatever strikes your fancy. I got scrambled eggs on toast with hash browns and tea, and left feeling full and happy. It’s a pretty small place and is quite popular, so you’re pretty much sitting on your neighbor’s lap. The service was decent but not very friendly, but the tastiness of the food and the reasonable prices made up for that. I’d go back.

Meltz is a lot more than just a sandwich shop. It has a whole breakfast menu — the Meltz breakfast at £5.45 is quite expensive but can’t be beaten. I love doing the build your own breakfast option — each item is about 50p The best thing is that breakfast is served from 9am — 5pm with no hidden conditions. A regular tea or coffee is £1.40 and there’s a reasonable range of fruit juices. They also do a good range of lunches, with their speciality being their hot toasties. They’re expensive, at around £6 each, but they come with salad, dip and tortilla crisps. They also do pasta in filling portions, salads, lighter meals and meat/vegetarian main courses. I don’t know much about wine, but they seem to have a surprisingly large selection for a café/light restaurant. For pudding I recommend the Lumpy Bumpy cake — you won’t regret it!

This is a great place for a quick meal if you’re after some good, solid, honest food at good value. There’s a great range of wholesome meals, and very little chance that you’ll go away hungry — the salmon with new potatos, big burger and spaghetti with meatballs are some of my favourites. I also really love the nachos — yum! This is bang in the centre of town and so is a great place to reach from any of the colleges or from the shopping centres on the way home. Give it a try — good value and a great place to relax. A good range of drinks and some fantastic puddings(I’ve always been curious about the«Chocolate Lumpy-Bumpy» but have never gotten round to trying it!).
