Guildhall Tavern

French restaurants don’t seem so common these days, but this is run by a friendly French family right in the heart of old Poole. Lots of classic French cuisine, and we had three menus to choose from, the pre-​Xmas one, the regular a la carte (&table d’hôte), plus a specials menu. Lots of fish, presumably sourced locally, with the quay nearby. I has skate wing with cream sauce and morels, then crêpe suzette flambeed. My partner had hake in fill pastry and a lovely looking hazelnut meringue. Excellent white wine by the carafe. Cooking was good bistro standard. Room was a bit cold to start with. And they brought a stingy amount of vegetables which I can only assume was a misunderstanding. Bill for four of us was £123 with wine and coffee. I would certainly go again.
