It is a place of its own– good music and dance area, you can find a place to sit if you need to, students and locals mix, and there is alcohol to be had. Negatively, it’s ceiling is really low, the bar is a tiny hole in the wall and is extremely expensive, it gets insanely warm, and the outer area is up a slippery stair and on the street.

If you’re after a top night out in Pompey, look no further than Scandals. It might sound like a dodgy club frequented by Del-Boy but it certainly isn’t. This was one of the first clubs I started going to back in the day and now ironically since Mama and Papa P moved a couple of years ago, it’s only a stones throw from their new pad. It’s like the Mothership calling me home. And so on a trip back home about 6 months ago, my best friend and I(she still regularly goes there, that’s how awesome it is!) rocked up and I was so pleased to see it hasn’t changed, well apart from the loos are bigger and had been decorated, but you know what I’m getting at here. The atmosphere and music — think Indie music old and new — were still the same. What’s brilliant about Scandals is, unlike other venues, you won’t and don’t get any aggro there, in all the years I used to go there and to this day, I’ve never seen a fight or anyone getting or giving grief as everyone’s just there to have a laugh. Okay, so like with everywhere you’ll find some mentalists trying their luck, usually the types I attract, but in Scandals you just go with the flow and laugh it off and you /they merrily go on your way unlike in other places where folks might get shirty. Another winner too is how ridiculously cheap the drinks still is, for a while after each round I kept exclaiming this point with glee to which point my best mate had to politely tell me to pipe down. I can’t wait for my next visit home and another boogie down memory lane Scandals style.
