I have been in this pub on a few occasions. Always packed although the time of the day and day of the week does alter the type of people in this place. Seats are a premium so be on the hunt for one if you don’t want to stand the entire time here. Drinks are ok, nothing special. Chips are a rip-off for the price of the small size of them. A good place to spend the afternoon if you want something loud but chilled. A good place to spend the evening on the weekend if you want something packed and happening.

The atmosphere is great and a good place for a drink and a chat. The food was pretty good. We ate their twice and loved it the first time but we’re lackluster the second. Definitely have the corn on the cob on the bar menu; the risotto was pretty darn good also. Nothing much special about anything else that we ate.

This place is filled with promise, nice décor, decent sounding menu and a nice vibe. Staff quality varies hugely, lovely lady in the dining area couldn’t do more to accommodate us without being in your face. Another lady taking table reservations nearly put me off the whole place! A group of us had dinner recently, starters were goats cheese mousse, which didn’t have enough of a cheese flavour for my taste but the vegetable garnishes were lovely, thinly sliced candied and yellow beetroot, cubes of red beetroot, pesto and rocket, not enough bread though. Queenie scallops were teeny but had a nice bacony smell to the dish. Mains included steak, not cheap and not quite amazing. Chips were awful, but waitress kindly accommodated us with mushroom sauce(no Bearnaise or Peppercorn sauce-how!!!) and was quick to offer us a veg side which wasn’t on the menu. Quinoa salad with trout was enjoyed but looked small. Dessert favourite was sticky toffee pudding, tasted like it had banana in it, not enough of the lovely sauce or accompanying ice-cream though. Overall, a nice experience, suspect dining room offers better service for food than bar area, whether this is to do with tips or not, I don’t know, a little charm would go a long way to make this place special though. That and Bearnaise sauce!!!

First pub visited in Richmond, nice décor, staff seem ok, just Youngs beers but seem well kept.

Standard pub in Richmond. Which is to say, not all that. Beer is average, bar staff are anonymous, mostly filled with rugby types on the weekend. Fine if you need to retreat from the cold for a quick pint before moving on, but I wouldn’t recommend making this your main port of call on a night out.

Delicious! Had Sunday lunch here with friends last month and was pleasantly surprised at how nice — and competitively priced — the food was. Close to the station, HUGE and really very tasty. What more do you want? I had a delicious pork roast, complete with the trimmings(and cauliflower cheese — always a bonus). Potatoes — 6⁄10.

As I finished work last night I was instructed by my girlfriend’s mother to meet her in Richmond to help carry a large sofa. She was running late with the hire van so my girlfriend(an expert sofa carrying co-ordinator) and I popped into the Orange Tree pub. We’ve lived near this pub for years, and know a little about it’s background and some history from the famous Orange Tree Theatre next door, but we’ve never once visited it. So this was our chance to try it out for the first time. Walking through their front patio area into the bar, you can’t help but notice the extraordinary amount of businessey looking people. They’ve evidently just finished work and stand there laughing politely at their unfunny bosses whilst trying to sneak another drink onto their bar tab. The businessey type people isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just means that you get a slight ‘what are you doing in my local’ look as you walk in. Anyway we ordered and I noticed a fun looking competition on the wall behind the bar. It took a few sips of my Bulmers to get the answer and when I got it I had to enter, especially as they’re on twitter. Overall, The Orange Tree seems like a really nice pub. It’s quite large with an outdoor area and a cellar for basement jazz(we could hear them sound checking and it sounded great). Above all, I’m impressed that they use Twitter and that they seem to use it well. My review is currently only 3 stars as I haven’ had the chance to fully experience this pub(drink, food, atmosphere, music, etc). It’s also on my bloggy blog too. Reckon you know the answer to the riddle?

Yep, I like the Orange Tree! Funnily enough, the first time I came here was when I was 16! A school theatre trip to the Orange Tree Theatre just next door to see some obscure play resulted in a few of us not coming back at the interval and just about getting away with being served. Ended up in here after an England international years later with a sense of déjà vu! This pub is great on a game day– whether it’s being played at Twickers or not. Loads of big screens, lots of bar space and the food is great. Attracts a good crowd, possibly more to do with it being in Richmond, and the transport links are good if coming here especially. I’ll be swinging by next week for the rugby. And the week after.

Came here today with the branch manager of our London branch. Apparently, it’s on the list of «usuals» for lunch for this branch. I’ve walked past it many times since I’ve been here and have always noticed quite a few people will frequent it after work. I’ve been wanting to try it, but am too shy to walk into a crowded place by my lonesome. When we walked in I immediately loved the décor. It has a very warm feeling in here with the big leather couches and chairs everywhere, hard wood floors, and dark colors. We went up to the bar and both ordered the exact same thing. We both ordered a large Hoegarden beer and the lamb burger. I’m not too pumped on lamb but decided to try because I’ve been craving a burger and I’m not about to give in and go to McDonald’s. To my surprise, it was delicious. It came with some pretty outstanding yogurt to accompany the burger and steak fries. The patty was smaller than our American hamburger and definitely didn’t feel out the bun. It was the perfect amount of food to make me full but not stuffed. As we ate our lamb burgers and drank our pints, we watched the big cricket match. Right now The Ashes are taking place and they had it on the big screen. I was given the general gist of the rules, but still have much to learn. I would definitely recommend this place and it seems that any of the Young’s restaurants are pretty solid.

A fairly large pub situated minutes from Richmond station and famed as a meeting place for a pre match rugby drinking pub. It is also a favourite with the locals business people looking for a spot of lunch or an after work drink before heading for home and being right next to the Theatre will also get people having drinks or a nibble before an after a show. If you were going shopping in Richmond this would be an ideal place for good food at not to mad prices. Always remained the same décor and atmosphere through it’s refurbishments and I guess it is a profitable pub for Young’s due to its location and rugby history. All in all, an inoffensive pub which is generally mild mannered and with a friendly crowd. Avoid on a rugby day if you don’t like big crowds and big rugby types generally being noisy and drinking more than their fair share. You also have to put up with plastic glasses on these days as it can get a bit rowdy.

Fairly average pub close to richmond station. During the day, you can enjoy a drink and some decent food in or out, but when work finishes, forget it. Being so well located, it spills out onto the street, and is not worth the bother for my money.

Iconic Richmond meeting place, gets very busy, and pretty noisy. It’s near the station and everybody knows where it is, so everybody meets there. Always good fun, particularly at weekends and when there are Rugby matches at Twickenham stadium. Tables ouside as well.

Situated handily just opposite Richmond station, The Orange Tree is a slightly insanely popular large Youngs pub. Actually, midweek it’s not too crowded at all, but Friday night is an experience — you can’t move in here. Since the smoking ban came in though, it’s not too oppressive, and there’s outside seating under heatlamps to take some air. The décor is cool, and the there’s a large variety of seats from sofas to tables to little nooks. There’s also an area reserved exclusively for dining, and the food isn’t bad at all. The crowd is mixed, and the service isn’t bad because they do employ enough bar staff, especially at busy times, so you never have to wait for long at the bar. Ideal pre-train pint.

Popular pub in the heart of Richmond. Plenty of internal space with overspill onto a good sized pavement to the front. I’d also add, unless you’re a rugby fan, do not go wheb there’s rugby on at Twickenham!
