The Lowry Fish Bar

Ah, it was a trip down memory lane when we randomly happened upon the Lowry Fish Bar. I used to live just off Chapel Street, and we’d just that minute been apartment-​hunting along Blackfriars and were heading back towards Spinningfields — this little chippy is handily located right by Salford Central on Chapel Street, not too far from town at all. My other half and I were hungry and didn’t know what to do for lunch really, so we decided to get a portion of chips to share from here to tide us over.
We like testing out chippies when we fancy a snack, and more than anything the standard of chips is the mark of a good chippy. But chippies, please! I beg of you! Stop serving the takeaway food in polystyrene boxes, it completely changes the chips. Paper’s where it’s at, it doesn’t even have to be newsprint. Anyway, despite that these were great chips, and a mere £1.50 bought us an epic portion which filled us both to the brim. A portion of these for one person would simply be ridiculous! Mmm, sleepy starchy carb overload.
We’re not bothered about table sauces when it comes to chippy chips, but that said, be warned that your portions of ketchup or mayonnaise will be 20p a go here. Yikes! Not an issue for me but for those who love a bit of Heinz on top, it might lose them a star. The staff were pleasant too, so overall this was a good chippy experience for us. Quite modern, but holding onto some of the traditional fish and chip values too. I’ll be back to try the fish next time I’m this way. In the meantime, I might start a petition to get chippies to stop using polystyrene containers…
