I recently visited San Pietro for my mums birthday. We went on a weekday lunchtime and it was quite quiet, but I would still recommend booking ahead just incase. At first we got the entrance wrong and went to the hotel, the entrance to the restaurant is a bit further on. Upon arrival we were shown to the seating area and given our menus. First impressions were that the restaurant had a luxury feel to it, nice décor and polite, professional service. We ordered our drinks and our food order was taken in the seating area. We decided to go for the fixed lunch menu, which is 2 courses for £14.99 or 3 for £18.95. When we were seated we were given complimentary bread with roasted garlic and oil and then given an amuse-bouche, which was like a tomato and cheese rice/risotto ball, it was really good and very tasty. For our starters, I went for the ham hock and vegetable terrine with caramelised pineapple and quail egg and my mum went for the soup of the day, minestrone. I really enjoyed the first course, the pineapple was a great accompaniment and gave great flavor. My mum enjoyed her soup and found it really filling. For our main courses, I chose the spaghetti bosciola and my mum had the slow cooked blade of beef. I couldn’t decide between the spaghetti or the pork belly, but as the pasta was a seasonable special I decided to try it and I could get the pork if I ever returned. At first I thought it was a really small portion of pasta, but in the end I couldn’t finish it as I was so full! The sauce was very creamy and the dish was pretty much a carbonara I thought. It tasted lovely, but was heavy on the cream and quite rich. My mum thought her beef was amazing, so tender, the knife sliced through it like butter. She thought it was delicious. We were both really full after all that food, but I was very intrigued by the chocolate gnocchi on the dessert menu, so we ordered it to share. Obviously it wasn’t your typical gnocchi, I’m not sure what it was made from. When you cut into a piece, chocolate oozed out, which was really good, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the gnocchi, it had a strange texture and I found it to be quite salty? The chocolate ice cream that came with it was nice. The service we received was excellent. When the food was delivered to your table, two people came, one to hold and one to serve. They were very friendly and attentive. Overall it was a great experience and you certainly don’t feel like you are eating out in the Scunthorpe area, it feels like a city restaurant. I was impressed to also find out that the restaurant offers a chauffeur service as well, for £15 return to Bottesford, which is cheaper than a taxi! I thought it was a great idea and then you don’t need a designated driver! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends.
