A nice pub, with comfy seats and comfy prices. The usual suspects gather here, and you’ll meet colourful people and hairdos. I’d say it’s a very short walk from the train station, and therefore is the place to stop when you have a layover in Sheffield, rather than staying the in station’s shops: o)

When I’m not gallavanting around in Manchester, I can most often be found in Sheffield, as it is where Momma and Poppa F. live. Sheffield is a city that I know almost as well as Manchester, and it has some wonderful little hidden gems, such as The Howard. It’s a proper pub, with a good range of food and booze available, both at very reasonable prices. For entertainment, there is a pool table and quiz machines available, a Monday evening Happy Hour which drops the already low prices to circa £2 a pint(depending on what your tipple of choice is), plenty of big screen T.V.s if you fancy watching the football, and they are no strangers to having live music from some of Sheffield’s local talent. I was last in on Friday night, and it was super quiet, which was a shame as usually there is a great weekend atmosphere in The Howard. However, I got chatting to the manager whilst waiting for a friend, and he informed me that unfortunately their refurbishment has been pushed back, so lots of the regular faces weren’t aware they’re still open! I love coming here for a quiet pint, either on my own while waiting for a train, as a pre-club watering hole, or meeting people for a catch-up. The staff are friendly and chatty, and the location of the pub makes it a great little spot to visit. I highly recommend it!

Close to the student part of the city this pub is apparently popular as a venue to visit early evening before heading to a gig or a club, when i visited there on a Friday afternoon it was pretty quiet but chilled, but it was starting to pick up as we left around 5pm. More popular a few years ago, it was a well respected place for club DJ’s to play and was on every Sheffield clubbers list as a place to start the evening before heading on to Gatecrasher. If dance, trance and house music are your thing, then there are still events taking place here, I don’t think its weekly or even monthly, but I am sure the wonder of the internet can inform you more on that score. There is a good selection of beers on offer and they had just taken delivery of a new cherry beer when I popped in which definitely quenched my thirst. The food is your usual pub lunch fair of Ploughmans, pies and curry and although I never tried any, a friend did and was heartily satisfied. There are a few big screen tv’s dotted around the place if you want to catch up on a match and there are also DJ’s and pub quizzes offering entertainment on various nights of the week. Located across the street from Sheffield Train Station, it’s a handy pub to stop for a drink or meal, if you have arrived famished from a long journey or, have an hour or so to wait until your next train.
