Food was excellent and service was very friendly and especially as I had two children with me.

Home from home-Having tried a fair few Indian restaurants in London, what a pleasant surprise to find Rajpoot on my doorstep literally I have frequented it dozens of times and tried many of the dishes but my favourite is there pathia which I find hard not to have evertime, their service and hospitality plus Indian beer is worth the visit highly recommended.

Did a quick tour of Sherborne on route to Devon. This restaurant is situation opposite the beautiful Abbey which provides a nice backdrop. A traditional style Indian restaurant but the food was lovely and the service was attentive.

I visited Rajpoot with my family for my Dad’s birthday lunch earlier today. We’re big fans of Indian cuisine and have been to several in the area but fancied trying a new place. It turned out to be one of the most bizarre experiences we’ve had. The décor is indeed a little old fashioned and weird, as other reviewers suggest. Quite quirky though, so it didn’t put us off. There was only one other family in there when we arrived, but being Easter weekend, it’s not an obvious choice for a lunchtime destination, so we weren’t concerned. We were shown to our table and drink orders were taken within seconds of being seated. Keen. But fine. When the waiter came back to take our food order, we tried to order a starter. We were then informed we couldn’t order a starter as the Tandoori oven wasn’t on at lunch(unless it’s been requested in advance) so we couldn’t have any starters, Tandoori dishes(their speciality) or Naan breads! Ridiculous! Luckily, my family has a sense of humour and we were more amused by this than annoyed. Personally, I had been looking forward to a cheese Naan, but I didn’t mind too much. If we hadn’t already received our drinks order, we might have up and left at this point. However, we each ordered a main dish and a rice. Then my Dad requested a vegetable curry as an extra dish to share between us and the waiter(who may also have been the manager as he’s the only staff member we saw the whole time) retorted with but you already have 4 main dishes. We explained we were slightly greedy(though, to be fair, that had been implied!) and we would be sharing it between us. He frowned and left. The food arrived pretty quickly. We’re closing at 2pm the waiter announced. I glanced at my watch. It was 1.50pm! Then he continued to prepare for this evening as it will be very busy. Lots of bookings. So kitchen closing. That is why we serve quickly. Ok then. At least we weren’t going to be chucked out on the street in 10 minutes time. At least, we presumed not. The food was actually pretty good, which was the saving grace of the whole experience. Fresh tasting and full of flavour. And yes, we easily managed to eat all the food on the table. Maybe because we weren’t allowed any starters or bread! The waiter came back to the table to check on us after a few minutes and asked me if my dish was too hot(I had ordered one of the hotter curries) and when I said no, it’s fine he looked disappointed and said oh many people find it too spicy. Personally, I thought it could do with a bit MORE heat but it still tasted pretty good so I didn’t complain. As soon as he had cleared our plates and delivered then swiftly tidied away our hot towels, we were presented with mint chocolates and the bill. So no desserts then. Luckily we weren’t really in the mood for anything sweet and we were still in stitches about the We’re closing in 10 minutes line so we found it pretty funny. We paid and left. He locked the door behind us. So, to conclude, the food was great and at the right time of day(when convenient to the staff) I’m sure the service and atmosphere could be good too.

Spent a weekend in Sherborne and visited the Rajpoot and it was a lovely experience. A really nice traditional curry house with friendly staff and great food. Would highly recommend the Jeerawala. Will see you again when i’m down :)

Food — average Service — poor Went there once for a work’s do and shall not be returning. I felt the food was overpriced for the quality, and the staff just seemed to be concentrating on getting us to eat as fast as possilble. Not at all the«friendly and welcoming» atmosphere that seems to be advertised!

Why are some restaurants stuck in the past, gloomy and with almost a sitcom feel about place. Food average and service slow. Also felt like there is not enough room between other diners and therefore restricted the atmosphere, ok for a football teams loud night out, but not for a quality meal with friends or family. Once was enough for me i‘m afraid.

We were in Sherborne visiting friends and they suggested we go to the popular local Indian restaurant called Rajpoot. My friends assured me the food there was excellent and even better than what we were used to in London. Big claims which I thought would be unfounded but I was wrong. We were greeted by smiles from waiters who engaged our group in conversation making us feel comfortable. I must say that the waiting staff were great; attentive and friendly. I am partial to Lamb and seldom find restaurants do it justice. However, I was pleasantly surprised when my Lamb Shorisha and my partner’s Modhupuri came as they were just superb. Our friends let us know that the owner had personally cooked our meals as he was in that night. Our friends are regulars here and have a good relationship with the staff who always ensure that a great night is had. We received a round of complimentary drinks which we thought was a nice touch at the end of the meal. Our overall experience was wonderful, much better than I had expected. The Rajpoot is now a regular feature whenever we come to Sherborne.

I always like to pay the Rajpoot a visit when I am in Sherborne as the food is wonderful. The restaurant is well established and seems to have built up a good reputation. I have eaten here a number of times and have not been disappointed with the quality of food. The staff are friendly and seem to know many of the local people. The Pathia and Peshwari Jinga are highly recommended and seem to be somewhat different to other Indian restaurants. They such seem more flavoursome and taste nicer than I have eaten in other local Indian restaurants. On a down side, at weekends the restaurant does seem to be very busy and booking ahead seems like a requirement. During busy times, the food can be a little slow coming but the food is excellent so well worth the wait. My favourite Indian restaurant and I have been to many. For an Indian meal it’s not worth going anywhere else. Although, a friend of mine did recommend their chicken and chips!
