Invited friends from Merseyside for a family meal today. Three hour journey for a bog standard set of meals. Salmon dish had hardly hardly any salmon. Child’s dish was hardly more than a bowl of mush. Pork dish served with raw veg. It may be fashionable on cookery shows for some who like veg crunchy.(minimum cooked) My wife and I had cod farther. Very difficult to spoil this dish, but chips we pale and limp and mushy peas tasteless. Little thought goes into presentation. More like rush jobs. We have been using Noble Comb for many years but over this current year the food has gone downhill.

Good honest pub food — the meals are plentiful and fit any budget. The restaurant also has many offers on its main menu such as buy 2 starters for £5 or 2 mains for £10. They also offer larger portions for a small amount extra — always a temptation. Also throughout the year they surprise you with special vouchers such as Buy one meal get one free or kids eat free. Their 16oz gammon is a tough one to beat and delicious too. The place is child friendly with a play are for children outside as well as outdoor seating. There is also a heated outdoor area for those who find it a bit brisk. We have been coming here for months and the staff are friendly and the meals have always been spot on. The only downside if it is one these days is that it can be very busy on times and either finding a table or the wait can be a bit longer than usual.

Had a very enjoyable night there Saturday night. Six of us dined, 4 had steak and 2 had lasagne. With wine and desserts the bill came to around £75. The service was swift and the place itself was modern and clean. Will return.

Went yesterday(Sept 2012) as an impromptu wedding anniversary meal(which hubby forgot not the meal, the anniversary!!). Didn’t book and the car park was rather full so thought, OK, a bit of a wait would ensue. Not at all. We found a comfy table amongst the other diners and proceeded to peruse the menu. Got the drinks and after about 10mins, the food arrived. I’m a long standing veggie and after looking at the online menu decided to go with the 3 bean and lentil masala(in the under 600 calorie section, important if you’re wanting to shed a few pounds). BUT, my mouth began to water when I saw the potato, cheese and leek(or was it onion?) bake, can’t remember. So throwing caution to the wind along with the bloomin’ calories went for it. Such a good decision. The dressing on the salad was subtle but ‘there’, and didn’t realise I’d be getting lots of the quite little square chips/roasted thingys but they were lovely. Did not eat all of them, but most. Hubby ordered the roast beef dinner but because we’d arrived after 1.30pm on a weekday, all the beef had been snapped up. Never mind, turkey was the next best thing. The only ‘complaint’ I got out of him was the mashed potato was lacking in taste. Considering he’s had to reduce his salt intake recently due to health issues, that’s not bad. Lots of diners; one or two who seemed to be ‘reps’, lunching pals, some young families so a mixed bag. I’ll/WE’LL definitely be going back there, and next year I’ll make sure he remembers our anniversary.

For what you pay I don’t think you can beat places like this. Given the price, the portion sizes are very generous and the food’s always well cooked. As almost everything on the menu is Two For One(cheapest meal free), you get the best deals if you visit in an even-numbered group! Or are particularly hungry/greedy. The menu’s varied enough that you should be able to find a few things to choose between. Also advertised at the till was a rump steak, chips and peas at only £2.95. Service was pretty quick for a busy Friday night, waiter was attentive and the food hot when we got it. Simple, good portions, friendly, pleasant enough atmosphere — and cheap. Does what it says on the tin.

ONe of the chain pubs. There are plenty of offers on at this chain pub, but you get what you pay for. The food is not brilliant, but it’s edible and it fills you up. Drinks are cheap enough. Not a bad venue, a little tired, but plenty of space and seats, with some outside seating. Plenty of parking round the front, but quite east to miss the turning.

Two visits to this place, and can rate it as very average. Drinks are reasonably priced as is food with 2 for 1 deals etc. Child friendly pub with kids meals and small play area outside. Pretty much does what it says on the tin, and seems to attract a good mix of people. Food was by no means amazing howver I’m a great beleiver in you get what you pay for and it was all in all quite cheap.
