The Old Post Office

Stayed overnight here. Great location in the centre of a beautiful town. Nice double room including breakfast at a great price. Old style pub downstairs has a lot of character with some good real ales including the pubs own which I sampled. I was not disappointed. Very quiet but this was a Monday afternoon

The Old Post Office is a Grade II listed half timber building in Shrewsbury. It is a very traditional looking pub on the fringe of Shrewsbury town centre (traditional old fashioned décor without looking rundown or cheap). The place was very quiet when we visited, although it was only 3 O’clock in the afternoon (works party!!). The staff were very polite, efficient and chatty, no-​one really had to wait anytime to get served and the beer was great; with a few Real Ale draught options available too. Reading the comments on the mens toilets; when we visited thy were fine, although the place was not very busy. The OPO also does food and accommodation, although I didn’t sample either during my visit. Prices for both food and accommodation appear quite reasonable.

Agree with all previous comments — just to add that provide FREE WiFi for the weary traveller lugging netbook around in the hope of getting e-​fix (and NOT the other kind of ‘e’s) — this is a proper establishment, fairly traditional inside with that multi-​coloured carpeting, brown wood beams and matching tables and chairs that you get in the ‘familiar’ model — but pleasant nonetheless.
Smack bang in the middle of Shrewsbury — very handy after trudging up the Wyle Cop hill.
Helpful and friendly staff, just go to the bar, be sad and order a cup of tea and ask for the WiFi password.
(In fact, stayed longer than originally planned, ordered lovely bowl of fresh Brocolli and Stilton soup, with a side dish of freshly steamed veges — off piste, but then that’s the advantage of going to your local hostelry where they can actually cook and deliver to awkward customer requests, with a smile!).
Good stuff.

nice atmosphere pub with karaōke nights. Good food with decent prices, friendly staff and good priced drinks. Outdoor smoking area is very spacious and looked after well, with heating.
