We started with the truffle Parmesan chips. Excellent. Added the beat ricotta salad. Dressing was very tasty. Had the baked oysters which had a slight kick to them but excellent. Had the portobello mushrooms which were also excellent. Special of the day, cauliflower, was a huge portion. I’m a vegetarian and had plenty of options. My husband really enjoyed his short rib and steak. Service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

My brothers and I had a great afternoon in Zelman’s. The food is excellent, well priced and gives you a chance to try a load of different cuts of beef without the expense of buying full steaks. The side orders are big, the truffle chips and roasted cauliflower were lovely. The beers at £4.50 a pop for not even a pint is my only gripe really. Service pleasant, perhaps a little overbearing for some but still nice enough when we were there. It’s the old Rex & Mariano spot and there are remnants of that place, plates/water bottles, which tarnishes what is a lovely setting. Really enjoyed it.

Zelmans has the perfect interior for the food that is to follow. Comfy red leather fitted out seating, dim lighting and the odd piece of art. Easy going than that of Goodmans, and the food can be ordered in a hey-lets-share-and-pig-out style. Well, that’s what we did anyway! We went for a selection of oysters, and prosecco. Good combo for a great start to any evening. They did have«holy f**king» baked oysters, which sounded fun but in the ordering we somehow missed out on them. We did get to try the infamous«holy f**k» hot sauce which definitely lived up to its name, so beware! This is definitely a meal best had with a group of 4 or more. There was 6 of us, so we had the ribs, both Chateaubriand and the Pichana beef — about 600g of each. This was way too much meat, but a takeaway back and good 2nd pig out when you get home from a drunken night. The meat had a smokey flavour throughout, which I loved. Pichana, which was a fattier piece of meat, was my favourite. The ribs fell of the bone and the meat was oh so tender. The bearnaise sauce to accompany the meats was creamy and just how it should be. BBQ and the chimichurri were not that tasty as they could’ve been. For sides, you have to get the parmesan and black truffle chips. Yes, rich is flavour but oh so good. You could only eat so many but it is definitely worth trying just for flavour sake. The mushrooms ordered as a side was soggy and left uneaten pretty much. All in all, feast out with a big group, that way you get to have a meat overload and try all the types. Wash it down with their prosecco or better yet, red wine. Then move onto their cocktails. T’was a drunken night, but lining my stomach with the smoky meats was a good choice! I will be back!

The team behind Goodman has once again nailed it. Simply put, Zelman Meat is perhaps the best value for money steak joint in London right now, the quality is outstanding at such an affordable price, you can’t go wrong with it. This is the kind of restaurant I would keep on going back as it ticks all the box for a restaurant: Great location, bookable, well priced, great service and excellent food. This is the place for me to go from now on whenever I need a good dose of meat treat.

First impressions was that this restaurant would be a one time event. They claim to not have a menu as such, just one on the board but they still hand out a menu and then(as nice as the waiter was), he spent about 10 minutes explaining everything that wasn’t actually on the menu — too much time. When the food arrived, then that changed our view on coming back. The meat was amazing, we mostly had the Chateaubriand which was tender and tasty but we also had the Picanha, a cheaper cut but with the extra fat, the flavour was fantastic. For sides we had the normal fried, the truffle fries and the cauliflower, all good. With 2 bottles of wine and service, it came to about 50/head, perhaps a bit more expensvie but certainly worth trying out.

Oh the revolving door of St Anne’s Court… I remember it being a Zebrano, Revolution, Rex and Marino and now Zelman Meats. Granted R&M were owned by the same folks who own Zelman Meats this large space has seen many a change in the last four years. My dinner buddy and I were feeling a little carnivorous after an hour long swim at Marshall St, so Zelman Meats was a welcome new addition to Soho’s already carnivorous tendencies. A walk into the restaurant finds well appointed and decorated booths and an exposed bar with cabaret style low walked booths for casual walk in clients. Really where Zelman clearly shines is its meats as very little is available for the veggie(besides some sides). The waiters must be well trained but slightly over enthusiastic as ours seemed to try to sell us on the fact that we needed more than 400 grams of meat between us. The Picanha was decent, well cooked but the fat was yet to be rendered right, but the short ribs were the event of the night. Some fattier parts seemed to just melt in your mouth where others burst with BBQ flavor. All in all a great evening, though over enthused waiters and too busy of a service left me just that little bit less impressed. 4* and would definitely return.

The Goodman group never fails to impress. This place is their remake of Rex and Mariano(which was not doing well catering for the lunch crowd but was a popular seafood haunt for dinner). They have turned it into all meat galore and I was lucky to try one of their brisket sandwich for free while they perfect their techniques. The brisket really melts in your mouth, and coupled with a nice tasting salad, my mouth waters just thinking about this. This was on the first day and my comments were that there was not enough brisket and salad and the bun was too small for lunch. However, on the 2nd day they did another free taster for Soho-ites and my colleagues returned. I am happy to report that(although I did not eat it the second time round — letting other people get a sample), they have upped the amount of brisket and they were also giving out free portions of fries! Well done Zelman Meats, you really listen and you improve within 1 day!

Zelman Meats has replaced Rex & Mariano, but it is still part of the Goodman group. Instead of seafood the new restaurant specialise in beef. I took the opportunity of the soft launch to try it out. The restaurant has been transferred in to an atmosphere more like a steahouse, but being slightly rustic and casual. There is no menu but just a blackboard of dishes available that day. We started off with the raw Sicilian red prawn which is actually a dish from their previous restaurant Rex & Mariano menu. However, you had the option to choose it to be serve cooked or raw. I actually prefer the cook version. I thought the raw ones were fishy which could be due to the prawns not as fresh that evening. The Holy Fuck Oyster(oops did I say that!) was gorgeous that we ordered a second portion. One portion comes with three baked oysters and each one has a kick of The Ribman famous Holy Fuck sauce, finished with a bake crumb top. There was three cuts that evening and I tried all three. The best had to be the chataubriand which was at a nice price of £9 per 100g. It was so tender, like a melt in your mouth beef. The pricanha was £6 per 100g and had a chewy texture, smiliar to a rump steak. Both cuts had a minimum order of 200g each. The beef short ribs was meaty but I thought it was dry. It was nice with the BBQ sauce which gave it more flavour. The was a variety of sides to select including Portobello mushroom, salad, mash etc. The black truffle chips in terms of flavour was better than the triple cook chips but Im not sure at the price tag of £8 even with a few shave of truffle. I would rather have chips with melted cheese for a cheaper price tag. That’s my type of chips! The concept of Zelman Meats as explained by them that all dishes is for sharing, which means even if you order different cut size around the table, it will come all on one plate. As it was the soft launch then that was the lack of staff training to tell us that before placing our order. I would expect now that staff better trained and would be explaining to diners before placing order. Staff explained that the cuts are expecting to change daily. So if you are not sure what’s on thr menu always best to call the restaurant to confirm.
